I just started a site. How can I get it noticed?

Yeah, but what is pinging? I thought its testing the latency of networks...

 

get it social bookmarked, use site link in signature

 

If you have budget try use adword,and if you prefer free way try use directory submission

 

Avoid dupe content and focus on stumble upon. When you get fresh news, try to make it baitable and have someone submit it to digg.

 

Network with fellow bloggers on the same niche and when you know other bloggers well enough ask them to link back to you and do the same for them.

 

submit articles, submit your site to quality directories, backlinks in forums, social media.

 

When I ping, it pings blog networks or search engines to alert them that I've updated.

Do directory submissions still work? Nobody uses them anymore, I'm assuming it's to beef up pagerank.
Will Google see this and devalue my pagerank accordingly? I've already had a site go from PR 4 to 0 because I didn't know I could sell text-ad links so I have to be careful.

Submit your website to free directories and niche directories & also if at all possible use Power Article Rewriter to spin your content and make it unique. Then comment on blogs write articles and press releases and maybe even create your own blog, but make sure your blog is hosted on site for best results & post to it regularly.

 

Add quality content and links.

 

try to find something unique that no one knows about and submit it to social book marks if its new worthy it should get you a lot of views

Pinging is notifying the search engines for sites with new content. Usually results in rapid indexing for blogs.
