.....as much as I like Joel Comm, I'm a little annoyed. There were about 5 pages of useful information and everything else seemed like an ad for a product or a website. I have to say the Joel is a genius, but, I feel fooled and am very dissapointed. Many of the webpages that he pointed to (as great sites) have alexa ranking in the millions and look like they haven't been updated in years. To be fair, it was the 2005 edition, so, he might have had an updated version since then. The book was very well written and no typos. The biggest problem with the book, is, he makes it seem like you have to spend $1,000 to do it right, and, if you dont.... don't blame him. If you were planning on buying this book, please don't let this deter you... It could have things in it that help you..... But, I believe that a lot of the information in the book can be found in this forum.
Most of these types of books re-hash things you can find right here on DP for free. Not worth the money if you ask me. Hopefully you got a little something out of it, though.
He has a 2006 version out, not that it's really any different from the previous versions except for rewording, design and perhaps a few new things. I didn't like it and didn't find anything useful so I didn't buy it. As said before by many, you are better off sticking to the forums(here at DP and webmastersworld). Anyway if ya want to see what is in the 2006 version, get it HERE for free...but if you happen to like it, I would suggest that you buy it.
The reason I got the book is....... Even though these forums are great, it's impossible to know what info to trust. It seems that almost every time I took advice from this forum, my CTR went down. And, on the other hand, there were things that improved...... All in all, I ended up doing better by these forums, but, after a lot of trial end error.
If you are not sure what info to trust on DP and what not (even though its all free) than how were you able to trust the seller (whatever your reason was you are still disappointed for your decision). So the best advice would be to stick to DP and learn. Even if you buy a "good" ebook there is no suretly that what worked for author would also work for your kind of site. Finally you have to try and learn.
I have deleted the link to the book so it won't work anymore. I didn't really think about it before posting as I guess alot of people would never have ended up actually paying for it even if they liked it or found it useful. Best to look around and ask if anyone had read it and if it was worth while.
How did you read it if you didn't buy it? File sharing and illegal downloading has become so common that people just accept it now as ok. I know because I used to think and do the same thing. Why is it ok to take something you didn't pay for, something someone worked hard to develop. Think about how you would feel if you spent months working on something to try to sell and make a living and instead of making sales, everyone downloads it for free. Its not ok to 'try' before you buy regardless of the fact that 70% of people do it. Don't expect to ever be successful if you don't have enough character to pay for things. What goes around, comes around. fastchecker.. take the refund joel offers, that's what it's there for.
Um can agree on most of them but with music and movies they charge to much movies make a killing in the pictures then they charge loads for the film on DVD (which most are rubbish ) alot of ppl said if they bring the prices down they will buy them which i agree on
if you cant afford a BMW you're not going to go and steal it are you? if the price of a movie is too high for you, then dont watch it
