I Just Got Rid of My "Sponsored Links"--Are you guys doing the same?

Well, since there is more and more evidence lately that Google is cracking down on sites that sell links (Selling Paid Links Can Hurt Your PageRank or Rankings on Google), I finally decided to remove them from my big site.

I'd been running Text Link Ads for about a year. Since it was only on one site and only bringing in $150/month it wasn't a big deal. My traffic has never been affected (in fact, it increased nicely over the last year), but I figured it was better to get out of the game before getting some sort of penalty.

What about you other webmasters selling links? Are you going to thumb your nose at Google and keep doing it or are you getting nervous and rethinking it?

I also got rid of my "paid" text links and cancelled my accout at text-link-ads.com. I still run affiliate ads, adsense and other personal product banner ads however.

I wonder how text-link-ads.com will fare through this seeing how their business model is built upon selling and buying text links...... they have a solid page rank as well. I guess time will tell, but for the time being I am playing it safe.

I only used TLA for a few weeks a long time ago (didnt work out for me), so forgive this question - but, aren't the Text Link Ads generated by javascript that you put on your site, and not actual "links" ?

Some dumb publishers add wording like "Sponsored" , "Ads" , "Text link ads " , " Supporters". This way they might hurt their own PR.

I don't know why they do this, I love buying link but when I see dumb publishers like this I close the site and move to the next one.

So for all publishers: Yes, it is possible to add text link to your sites without using :

    "Sponsored" , "Ads" , "Text link ads " , " Supporters"

You will get tons more advertisers if you do this.

When you publish paid links, blend it with your contents.

Embed the paid links accordingly so that they don't appear as if they are paid ones :) :)

Some publishers feel it's dishonest to get paid to put links on a blog without disclosing that they're paid links.
