    Hi folks,

I just got listed in dmoz and the google directory after only submiting my site about a month ago :D. I am wondering if that still of value as it used to be, and if so what would that be.

    Thanks in advance

Yep, it holds a strong value still, very strong. Not gonna get a bunch of Google backlinks from the scraper sites anymore, but it's still very strong.

A bit, yes. Not a lot, really, but some.

Don't expect it to zoom you from page 1000 to page 1 or anything. It is after all just another link.

Recent event of Google investing in AOL/Time Warner may have future implications for importance of DMOZ in Google rankings. Google has assured impartiality, publicly, regarding AOL affiliated content. Current usage of DMOZ descriptions in certain Google results may imply a strong collaboration in near future. The state of web is in constant flux, incorporating new technologies to enhance user experience. We will just have to wait and see whether the growth of DMOZ will solidify future long term relationship with Google and numerous other sites using ODP data.

It appears that Google has already started to devalue those clone sites. This would be entirely consistent with their views about "democratic voting". I cannot see them reversing that simply because they now have a financial interest in AOL. Indeed, I doubt that DMOZ had anything to do with that investment decision.
