I have a link directory where users can submit their website url to increase their google page rank and traffic.
So what I did was, I just emailed companies asking if they would like some help with advertising their website.

This is all i said. And i just got 1 sale from someone who i emailed.

The way I did it was, i put a signature in my email of my link directory, they must have clicked on it,and saw on the front page of my site if says if you submit a link you'll get more traffic.

They haven't even emailed me a reply to my email, but they've submitted their link!

    Wohoooo

    Wow,

now you should send the email like this to the 100 clients like this..
and do this for other 100

lol to take home lesson is increasing the MARKET reach and
    increase the CONVERSION rate

these companies have they agreed to get an email from you? Now i do not know how the rules are at your place, but in Denmark it is illegal to send that kind of emails unless the company has agreed to recieve it.

There is nothing wrong with sending such emails. Its up to the recipient to treat it as valid or spam.

Just just goes to show that the soft sell approach can be quite effective.

I think so many people are so tired of getting junk pitched at them that a marketing message without a blatant call to action can be well received.

He he - yup, I live there/here (Denmark) too... and things really are quite restricted here - for better AND worse.
To me it seems many of the techniques for increasing traffic and revenue are bordering on the illegal/unethical...

But then again - we all hate spammers... good thing that spamming is forbidden more or less everywhere....

And still, there are so many.

    /rant off.

Hehe... maybe i am also a bit paranoid because i would hate to be catagorized as a spammer! *G* But as far as i know you can get pretty big fines for spamming. At least here in Denmark.

But what the heck.. one sale pr. 10 minutes i not bad at all! :) (just don't mail to any danes! *LOL*) :D

If they put their address out then its a gray area. Congratulations on your sale.
