Hi All I've just found out im rated number two on google for some keywords, although its more of a mixture of keywords. Let me explain. I've been trying to get a good position for buy widgets - ranking currently at about 70 down from 46? (roughly) and retail widgets - ranking currently at about 47 down from 34? (roughly) However, buy retail widgets ranks me second on google.co.uk and i think the phrase is only used a couple of times on the site, how can I improve the ranking for the other phrases?
A good example of how it is easier to rank higher with long tail keyword phrases. Less competition and the click are more like to convert. Congrats
It also shows that sometimes a page can rank highly for a keyword (even a competitive one) that doesn't turn up on the page that much. Google really does have a filter against over optimalisation: when a keyword is present on a page too much, google will discount it.
That is cool! It is nice to see your own site on the first page of Google results. Probably the reason you are ranking so well for that phrase with only one occurrence is that it is a rarely used phrase. In order to rank well for other keywords work on your keyword density. It is also a good idea to use those target keywords in anchors when getting backlinks if you can. I have a site that ranks #2 (last time I checked) for 'keyword text link' and another one that ranks #3 for 'keyword text links' that was how I did it.
Well getting a top 10 spot for a lesser competitive keyword is no big deal, try to find out how many clicks you get from that particular keyword, if your getting decent amount of sales then itz a job well-done and continue to build back links and add more unique content cheers
when your content is about selling stuffs, it is good to optimize keywords in less competitions because what you need is the conversion. But if your content is only about reviews, news, story, etc., it is useless to search niche keywords which less than 10,000 visitors monthly. Where will you get your money? Only advertisements can't help you. need more than that.
