So far all I've seen is you talk a big game... But you have 300 posts here, less then 100 reputation points (so you obviously haven't contributed much to the forum, or it's members), and you haven't proven to anyone that you own a successful website...

    Why should anyone believe you?

In all honesty. Manchester, you're an idiot. What was the point of this thread? No one cares about your stupid non existent product, or one that you may or may not release. Do you see anyone else making stupid posts like "Should I order pizza or Chinese food?" It's an utter waste of time. Either you A) Release your product. B) Don't make a stupid thread about maybe releasing your product.

Its funny seeing all the bad mouthing going on about you manchesterguy but you have managed to grab DP's attention and its turning into another e-book thread, lol. Just for grabbing my attention I'd bid $5 for that book.

Really? Sorry but you do post like a 10 year old so I wouldn't have guessed. :)

well its easy to say but hard to do. I agree with you that years and years of experience may be your worst enemy if you're doing it wrong. that's why its important to get the right information.

but unlike Web development, where you can get real knowledge and immediately apply it, SEO is vague, cryptic and tragically, deliberately misrepresented.

It's been a while since I've posted here - arrived via a sphinn. Seems like I've missed a fair amount of the fun...

I find these types of threads/claims funny, and even wrote the SEO Crackpot Index" - which BTW, rewards the OP with lots of points so far:

    The SEO Crackpot Index

Begin with a -5 Point starting credit. We don't want to stifle new ideas, after all.

    • 1 point for every statement that is widely agreed on to be false.
    • 2 points for every statement that is clearly vacuous.
    • 3 points for every statement that is logically inconsistent.
    • 5 points for each such statement that is adhered to despite careful correction.
    • 5 points for using a thought experiment that contradicts the results of a widely accepted real experiment.
    • 5 points for each word in all capital letters (except for those with defective keyboards).
    • 5 points for each mention of "Matt Cuts", "Sullivan" or "Mike Greham".
    • 10 points for each claim that SEO is fundamentally misguided/delusional/fraudulent (without good evidence).
    • 10 points for pointing out that you have gone to school, as if this were evidence of sanity.
    • 10 points for beginning the description of your theory by saying how long you have been working on it. 10 additional points if you claim to have been doing SEO since 1994 or before.
    • 10 points for offering prize money to anyone who proves and/or finds any flaws in your theory.
    • 10 points for each use of "over-optimized", "over-SEO'd" and the like.
    • 10 points for each new term you invent and use without properly defining it.
    • 10 points for using an existing term in a manner that is clearly different from the accepted definition.
    • 10 points for arguing that a current well-established theory is "only a theory", as if this were somehow a point against it.
    • 10 points for claiming that your work is on the cutting edge of a "paradigm shift".
    • 20 points for suggesting that you deserve a Nobel prize.
    • 20 points for defending yourself by bringing up (real or imagined) ridicule accorded to your past theories.
    • 20 points for beginning the article or post by wondering how long it will take for you to get banned or the article pulled.
    • 20 points for talking about how great your theory is, but never actually explaining it.
    • 20 points for each use of the phrase "SEO Gurus" or "SEO Community" as a derogatory statement.
    • 20 points for suggesting a theory that, if true, would allow anyone to destroy anyone else's business or website rankings easily, instantly and without recourse, without clear evidence this is happening.
    • 30 points for suggesting that search engines are plotting against SEO's or webmasters in general. Another 10 for citing your own rankings drop as proof.
    • 30 points for insisting that if critics cannot disprove a theory, then it must of necessity be true
    • 30 points for showing (or admitting) no/little knowledge of other people's previous work on the subject.
    • 40 points for comparing those who argue against your ideas to Nazis, terrorists, or criminals.
    • 40 points for claiming that the "SEO community" is engaged in a "conspiracy" to prevent your work from gaining its well-deserved fame, or suchlike.
    • 40 points for comparing yourself to Galileo, suggesting that a modern-day Inquisition is hard at work on your case, and so on.
    • 50 points for claiming you have a revolutionary theory but giving no concrete testable predictions.
The higher your score, the more likely you are to be an SEO crackpot. Actually, if it's in the positive numbers at all, you should carefully reconsider your arguments.

    Source: mcanerin.blogspot.com/2006/10/seo-crackpot-index.html

I get a count of 50 points at least so far, but I probably haven't looked hard enough.

well that was interesting, though a digression from the topic.

a sphinn poster has reminded me of the original dilemma: letting out the real method to practice professional SEO can create thousands of competitors. why let it out?

on the other side of the coin, the temptation to be recognized for pioneering work is also very great!

I have an invisible unicorn for sale. Of course, you can't see it because it's invisible. But it's really cool. You'll have to take my word for it because I'm the only one who can see it, but since I have seen it that makes me the expert anyway.

You should trust experts. We know much more than you, and you can tell because we are keeping the really good stuff a secret. Therefore the less someone tells you, the more of an expert they are. It's a fact! Since I'm not telling you anything, you can now be confident that I must know a lot more than you.

I think the existence of an invisible unicorn would destroy modern physics and biology (not to mention fantasy), so it's a very powerful thing and I know that I must use it wisely. Should I sell it? It eats too many carrots anyway...

I think that my invisible unicorn is at least as valuable as someone else's Invisible Manual of Ultimate SEO. If you want, I can make my argument much more powerful by dissing tolkein, gygax and salvatore. Then you will know that since I dis them that I must be in a really powerful position to do so, and therefore must know more than they do about fantasy creatures.

You should really paypal that money to me, instead. I can even send you a picture of the invisible unicorn. You won't be able to see anything, which of course is exactly what you would expect to see!

Tell you what - roll a d20 and decide...

    Ian

Ouch, my head hurts from trying to think like that...

on a more serious note, how many of you guys have been frustrated after reading the regular SEO Books out there? ever felt they left out the most important bits?

how do you SEOs determine what kind of links to build? where do you get those links from? do you just try to get as many as you can, and then live with whatever ranking you get? how do you influence your ranking?

how can you ensure a first page rank? is it even possible to do so? do the first page rankers just get lucky?

Let me guess, your ebook is going to be soooo much better, right? Still, all this hype just for trying to push another "make money online" ebook is crazy...

well its not a "make money online" ebook.

this is truly a matter of revealing the best practices of the industry, which are as of now, literally HIDDEN.

Many SEOs have contacted me, urging me to keep mum and to not reveal the industry secrets. See how different it is from writing a book about, say, PHP?

Ok, so it's an "easy way to get visitors to your site" ebook?

Why should DPers trust you? No reputation points. 0 iTraders. Can you show us an extremely successful website you own as proof?

This thread deserves to receive an award. I nominate this thread as the longest thread on DP with the least amount of worthwhile information in it. I can hardly believe this thread (which is about nothing) has made it this far - and here I am helping it to go even farther!
