You simply registered a name at normal reg fee and found
what seemed to be some residual page ranking.

I'd still work on it and wait to see what the next update will bring you.

Allow me to digress slightly.
Once upon a time I had a domain listed for sale that had valid PR and backlinks and all. I decided to forward the domain to the listing page and within 2 days, checkpagerank.net showed one part saying valid PR and the next part saying it seemed to be forged. Third day everything said FORGED.
Well, I stopped forwarding and placed and placed a lander. Two days later it was back to VALID.


I lived happily ever after...for the rest of that day.
