I hadn't been advertising with adwords for quite a long time. Today I decided to start a new campaign... They ask me to put in a minimum bid, saying that I can choose even a cent if I want. OK, so I decide to play safe and bid 10 cents on 450 keywords. I click on continue, and I get a horrible red note blasted in my face saying something like "445 of your keywords have been disabeled". WTF?? So, I scroll down, and see that all of my keywords say that I need to bid one dollar, and 50 of them ask for a bid of 5 dollars. Why the heck don't they say that in the first place?? Now I had to raise my bid to one buck per keyword, although for most of them I am the only one with an adwords campaign!! This is just ridiculous...
Maybe they have it 1 cent so you think,"OH my God, how cheap are they" and whne you click continue "Bump you get the real prices" But it was a bit crazy from you too paying such litle money for 450 keywords, don't you think?
It just happened right now, I am going to wait and see if each click indeed will cost me a buck, or if it is just some new weird feature but I end up paying less than that. I usually target typos, so I am the only advertiser for them, and I don't think a typo should cost one dollar
Yes, the same thing has happened with me sometimes before, but i was not charged that much ultimately, i was charged less. I think you will also be ultimately charged less for your keywords.
Fryman, Google figured out the typo thing and has almost all of them fixed to compete with correct spelling, it doesn't show up until you get past the initial bid point. Doesn't technology rock?
Yep, google came down hard on advertisers with their inactive keywords issue. Apparently they got to typos too now. Their minimum bid is supposedly based on the quality of the keyword, as well as the quality of your ad etc... but I've seen many times keywords with a minimum bid of $5 that didn't really have a lot of value to any advertiser (not at that rate, anyway) - so I think Google are missing out on some revenue here by not opening the market in a better way than just guesstimating the worth of each keyword to an advertiser.
