Was the SEO company's only task to perform inbound link building? Did they perform any on-page SEO at all? Did you ask them to help you rank for any specific terms? Does the anchor text from your new links contain your main keyword, or something else?

I had a site ranked #2 and lost my position of Friday, but the site was only 3 weeks old so I guess it was that honeymoon period with Google and new sites. Hopefully the work I have been doing the last few weeks will pay off in the long run and get me back to the first page.

If you had hired a seo for your site to make your site complete seo friendly. then if he had make the changes on the site according to your list of keywords. Then it is obvious that he may set the priority of dropped keyword less then other and that cause this drop. So i thing this is a process and you have to wait some time to take any decision about your seo of the site.

And if you have allowed only off page such as link building and then had putted un-relevant link then just upload the last backup of link page and surely will back on shape.

Finally take any decision to drop the seo company, first ask him what he did on the site and then analyze his work. If the work whatever he had done may shows this as surely drop then allow to continue him to work on his site. And also you have some commitment with the seo company that if not got the results in several months then i will take a charge back.

I don't think you'll get your rank back if you remove the links.

Dude, you need to chill out, sites that receive a lot of links in a short period of time can tank, the good news is they usually come back, give the SEO company a chance, like a month or two to make things right.
