I also agree that I very much doubt it was the blog commenting which was the cause of the rankings drop.

    heh, there you go.

SEO Rule number 1 - patience is required always in these things - hopefully this has demonstrated the often very tenuous link between cause and effect in SEO.

this is exactly how so many people go really wrong, make a few small changes to something, see some ranking changes, and wrongly assume it's because of what they did, then make more multiple kneejerk reaction changes again, and end up getting really lost and messing it all up.

Neither 10 nor 10000 bad links could hurt your rankings. If somebody thinks that linking to a bad website could hurt his website rankings, then I think he is newbie in SEO and he has to learn a lot to be aware about SEO.

Agreed! A COMPLETE coincidence as said above..

Also as said above, but it's worth repeating. If it was this easy to push someone OFF page 1, there would be literal link warfare to push your competitors down... Google knows this. Thus, it's not in the algo.

For real. I've gotten around 2300 irrelevant links for one of my sites alone, and I'm talking completely irrelevant, and I've never been penalized.

This is one of the many reasons I'm not taking on new SEO clients anymore.

This industry is really taking off, but it's getting flooded with people who truly don't understand how it works, and/or expect way too much. People are quick to badmouth a company without knowing anything about how the process works.

Google fluctuates. That's all it is. Even super spammy methods take more than 2 days to take effect.

Nothing more I can add on the fact that those comments can't have harmed you, thats been more than covered by everyone else already. So all I'm going to say is why are you paying an seo company to blog spam for you?

If you want blog spam comments go wave a $10 note around in the services for sale forum and someone will snap your arm off for it.

Inbound links have no effect on hurting your SERPS. If they had touched your website and put OBL's (outbound links) than it would be a problem but since they had no access to the website than it must be a coincidence.

Just find some credentials and sample of there works to test there ability. Just look some seo company that have some potentials and sample of there works. Try to examine them if they are using a good seo strategies.

Maybe they use black hat then the google check your site. The google will penalized your site. It maybe recovered. Try some good seo company.

Most SEO firms are lazy, they have everything on auto pilot and the work is done by bots, a lot of the time they own webpages that they use to put your links on and then they automatically post your link USING THE SAME TITLE AND DESCRIPTION each time, when that links suddenly appears on many pages along with other sites that also are listed in the same pages with the SAME TITLE AND DESCRIPTION also then it rings alarm bells with google.
Avoid buying links or using submission companies FULL STOP, unless the company posts your links on independent pages using a different title and description each time. (which I do as a self employed SEO)

Ask for referrals from their current clients. If they don't have any, you should just drop them and look for another, more reputable company.

Let me guess, the 'SEO' company was charging you $6 for the links?

You get what you pay for and no 'real' SEO company is going to sell you a package with 10 backlinks.....

Actually it may be because of low quality links. Actually to get good result you need to use good quality back links. Go for good Search engine expert to get back your keyword in good position

it must've been one of the pigeon bars broke at the pigeon farm :D
Google had brought in a new shipment of pigeons for the algorithm pecking order farm, apparently some of them were timid at hitting the peck bar as they found it odd since they were from an area where they didn't do much pecking. Even though they were following the behavior of the other pigeons, they just weren't hitting the pec kbar hard enough to register a point. So, apparently your site suffered from a temporary lack of SERP points from pigeons that hadn't worked up the peck bar strength yet. It's common.
    For more info: http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html

btw. you wont drop 6 pages for bad links, there's really no effect from bad links if you're not linked back to them. Read the google articles from people at Google. If it were possisble to do that there would be tens of millions of people creating bad , horrible, terrible links to their competition.
