hi guys not sure why Microsoft told dell that they don't want to sell dell computers without XP? i guess vista is the only way to go ?

I think Microsoft is way way way over charging for there Vista OS..

please let me know why they would do such a thing? xp rocks!

please note i do like vista , but i don't like that people have to buy a new pc just to have it.. when you have other country's that the kids cannot afford to drop money on a new PC just to have vista~ yes i know you can upgrade but vista is sooo bloated it dose not perform well on a old pc.. plus dropping 200 bucks on it .. well you get the point...

*I hear that Dell is going to stop selling XP? is this true?

Well didn't they do the same with with internet explorer a couple of years ago, and netzeo sued them and lost?

I bought a new laptop from Dell last month. Asked if it's possible to get it with XP - "no". Is it compatible with XP? - "No". Am I using it right now with XP, every day for the last 4 weeks without a single problem? "Yes".

I was told Dell are beginning to "wind down" their production of XP-compatible computers/laptops - so I would take this as an indication that yes, they will be stopping selling XP. :(

They're phasing XP out... obviously it will stop being sold. Vista is the future for Microsoft and I'm sure they will close XP support so Dell and all other PC manufacturers will need to move onto Vista completely.

I really don't want to go to Vista because it's all locked down - I think it's too restrictive.

My next laptop will be Linux... I'm not quite ready to make the leap yet but I think it'll be a good solution in 6 months time. :)

Any plans Dell has to stop selling XP, are only on the retail side of things.

They continue to sell XP to corporate customers. They'll lose serious sales if they mess with that cash cow...we made it very clear to our rep we would switch hardware vendors, were XP not an option. We're not a huge Dell shop, but we do spend close to $1M a year with them.

His response - almost all of his corporate customers were saying the same thing.

Dear lord I hope they don't make Vista compulsory, Ubuntu has gotten so much easier to use even in the last two major versions that I will be fine with Ubuntu+Wine+VMWare

Yea I think they are stop making XP.
MS has a tendency to ignore older softwares after a new OS is made.

Or you could, you know, go buy a motherboard, a harddrive, a cd/dvdrw drive, some wires and such, a computer case, a power supply, a couple video cards, and boom, you have a cheap computer system that rocks most dell models and wait for it...wait for it... IT HAS XP :p (pirated of course, unless you bought a bunch of them before they went off the shelves)

    Regards,
    Nick

Don't worry about it, just keep a nice fresh disc of XP to install on your computer if you decide to get a new one.

You forgot to ask them: "Do you ship it without an OS installed" :p

Some of the best dell xps versions are using XP as OS but you can choose whether to have vista or xp.

    *Make that 5 weeks now:p

It'll be the same old story. They still sell Celeron Mobile laptops. Doesn't that tell you something?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just like Dell's XP bank account - ain't losing money, so don't change it.

My new dell that i bought isnt compatible with XP it seems. It came with Vista, and you know how some of us hav ea hard time moving on. SO i used the vista for a month, and then decided to wipe the hard drive and put my xp pro on it. The dang thing kept crashing at least a couple times a day (explorer illegal operation stuff), and there was no reason for this to be happening.

So i said oh well, and reinstalled Vista, and it hasn't crashed since. So i only assume that the dell isn't compatible with XP.

Vista runs really good on it though.
