Get yourself known on the web and bloggers will blog about you, and link to you. Many other sites will link to you too, but you gotta remember theres 6 billion other web pages out there, so thats not gona be easy. There is no defined way of getting good PR and good traffic. You have to find your own way. Back in 2005 people found out link exchanging worked, it doesn't work anymore you need to find a new way, a unique way and stop thinking you can just buy some magical software which will make you bigger than Google. Look at EVERY big site, Do you really think Google got big by exchanging links and buying magical software and ebooks? Don't waste your money. Stop listening to scammers telling you what they did to get big, If they got big than why are they selling magical software?
I used to run an arcade site and majority of the arcade sites have a auto link exchange program where you signup and after you start sending them traffic you'll move up on their list. It's an great way to do link exchanges. I'm not sure if that will apply your niche.
Dont worry about that, your work is not waste since they know about your website. Keep building link and make quality content, they will look back on you once your PR increase
The interesting and quality contents on your site may increase one-way links to your web site from other ones. Concentrate to build up good site with quality and unique articles and success is guaranteed! Quality is much more important than quantity! And yes link exchange is little old technique to build links for your site. Note that your site can't become popular "over night", you need to have much patience and spend a lot of time to build good and successful website!
Most don't check their email - or they're too lazy. I can exchange links with you. PM if you want to exchange links.
And if you thought getting people to reply to link exchange emails was hard, try that... lol True, it shows you are serious! I find it also helps to link to their sites first... yeah, that's more out going then incoming, but after a month you can remove the links that are not reciping. You should also sell your site to make it look like you are up and coming. If it seems in anyway that you are just another new site about an old topic people will not care.
Hyder i think you should only work with the sites providing the facility and providing the on time response Mike

software and web development companies are not very likely to want to exchange links because they don't want to send potential customers away to the competition. I know I wouldn't trade a project worth a few thousand dollars for a link
True... I was in the same dilemma as you are in. When I started off with my website, I was desperately looking for link building solutions. I tried contacting websites for link exchange and all I got were negative or no replies. Some replies were even rude to the point in calling me names. I took all this as motivation and started my link and traffic building venture slowly and regularly through blog commenting, social bookmarking, Adwords program, and others. One year later, my website was a PR 5 with 5000 pageviews per day. Some of these websites whom I contacted came back with replies that they have reviewed and reconsidered my submission and that I had qualified for their link exchange program. You know what I did: gave them a middle finger salute and showed them the door out. I am now earning a decent sum through ad and link sales.
Doing link exchanges might not be a good idea in order to backlinks. Most of the time, the greatest obstacle is finding a site with the same PR and willing to go ahead with the agreement. It's best to concentrate your time on other link building strategies such as article and directory submission.
dont worry about the wasting 3 hours because if you are like me and I am sure others on this board and have been in internet/digital marketing for awhile now you will waste many more hours to come on random things that end up not having any weight later on.
what would you rather have.... page rank or traffic? If you choose PR then you wasted your time I get SPAMMED to death by people asking to exchange links in my directories and i never reply and just delete the email or send them back a nasty letter as they are too stupid to figure it out so... (we are NOT FREE directories) Anyway if you want links then i suggest going to the DP "services section" and finding sites and offers from webmasters that do submission services , bookmarks, articles and more. thx malcolm
