Hi, I have a site that has had no optimization at all except being indexed and having the sitemap submitted to google.

I have 4 hours of free time before I go fishing to optimize my site, Can anyone tell me the next steps in optimization?

    Cheers.

Won't you come back from fishing :)
I'll do some directory submissions and check the titles and descriptions for my site.

Okay, instead of opening a new thread I will ask my second question here.

I just verified my site in the Google Webmaster Tools thing, it crawled my site on the 7th of June, but because I only verified it today I can't see the stats, how can I get my site crawled today so I can view my stats?

    Thanks.

you don't think you can choose when to have it crawled.

You have to wait for google to update them as far as I know there is nothing could be done to speed up the process.

Okay, I was just thinking there might be a META tag or something that could speed it up, NP though.

Any tips on making it more search engine friendly?

About 3 days ago my site was submitted to 200,000 directories and search engines, so I don't need to do that.

Submitting to 200,000 directories & search engines isn't going to help you in the slightest.

You need to make sure your site has interesting and remarkable content and then start interacting with some popular bloggers in your niche. Find out how digg , del.icio.us and stumbleupon work and take it from there.
