70% of visitors that come to my site leave within 5 seconds. this is devastating and I am trying relentlessly to fix this. things that I worry might be responsible for this are: 1. The colours I use 2. The google ads I have 3. The links are not appealing Any reason you can see that would make a person leave right away I would greatly appreciate hearing about. The link to the site is the "make songs" link in my signature. Thank you for the help as it is desperately needed
Well, I'm not hip to msuic production, and I'm certainly not a professional web anything or other, but I hope the following helps: I liked the colors, so they're fine (as though my "color palette" is the one all people adhere to), and the Google ads didn't bother me. The links, I couldn't tell you - you're the musician (I assume - if not, you are doing an excellent job already), but I didn't see a problem with them. That said, the layout was funky. I had to scroll a LOT to get to anything (meaning I the Top Ten Highest Earning post - is it a post - wasn't information I wanted and I kind of thought it was a HUGE ad), then the embedded YouTube video stretched onto the next column (unprofessional looking; not that I thought you were a professional though the header made me think so - good list) and that blocked part of the comments box (which I'm used to seeing at the bottom of a post - I liked the "I follow") The titles of posts(?) should be all caps, or a different color, or something. I didn't even know they were links, so maybe not the whole post should be there? The writing was good, perhaps a little stilted - I didn't think it a problem. Oh, and the AdSense picture ad is cut off on the edge. For some dumb reason that just irritated me when I saw it - now, I know, there's no black border on the right; there is on the left, bottom, and top. I hope that helps. Sorry for the long post, and too bad I'm not a musician/hardcore nut - I'm sure that would have been a better help.
Thank you very much MeMyselfAndI. your response was very helpful, informative and appreciated. EPCO, most of my visitors come from search engine results for my keywords. Some visitors from social bookmarking sites as well. No paid traffic.
it doesnt look bad, but its not something that i would really be interested in, so my stay would always be short, but its right up my husbands alley, and looks like something he would take some serious time perusing
Try placing your "Popular Post" above the page fold making it visible without scrolling. This gives viewers more topics to peek their interest. Most visitors will leave without scrolling unless they immediately see something of interest. Then they may stick around to learn who you are and what your site is about. Good Luck!
