Hello I have learned so much and most of the credits goes to DP! which is one of the best forum in the world for SEO and others stuff too.. Ok, I have just finished one website: I need to optimize it now. What would be the FIRST STEP that I should take? hunting for oneway link?, article submision? press release? How do I optimize the website? What is the FIRST MOVE? I mean, Is there any standard series or chronically defined steps that professional SEO does on a newly born website to optimize it? Please suggest the steps clearly so that Grunt like me can understand and I like to thank all professionals who participated to define this topic for me and for all the new comers in the future too.. Thanking for your time DUKE
i would do some keyword research before starting any seo work. research what keywords 'could' bring your site some traffic, then do on-page seo based around those keywords.
At this point, you're trying to market your Web site, not optimize it. Optimization should be done before you even write one line of code. Basically what you're trying to do is sell a car to someone - they can have any color car they want, as long as it's black (yet they want yellow or hot pink instead). To really optimize your Web site for the search engines, you have to make the site usable and accessible to people first while writing quality content with appropriate keywords sprinkled thorughout naturally and organically (meaning they blend in and don't stick out like a sore thumb) that's updated regularly which people will want to link to.
H1 should be used once per page as the page title (and I don't mean the TITLE element either). That's it. As for alt attributes, they're not for stuffing with keywords to the gills. Use them to identify what the image is for those who can't see them. If you can put an appropriate keyword (for example, if your site is about puppies, and you have an image of a six week old Jack Russell terrier puppy, then have your alt text identify that it's a picture of a six week old Jack Russell terrier puppy - or do the righ thing and call it a rat dog ).
I would recommend you to make on-site optimization first, having proper keywords, meta, h1, alt tags, keyword rich text content and SEO friendly link structure, sitemap generated and submitted to google, and only then starts getting links for the site. Recently I saw interesting effect for 2 of my sites - the site was not fully complete but link building was started, some good rankings appeared, but when the on-site SEO was made the rankings dropped. I guess google considers such actions as artificial methods and applu some filters. Now the rankings are recovering, but in the future I will completely optimize the site, wait until google index it and only then start intensive link building.
You have actually burned the first step. You should of ask this question before you even started building your website (unless you are aware of what you have been doing while building your website). First step what SEO guys do is, analyze competitive keywords, thats even before they write 1 line of code of their site. Get a list of your keywords, than if you care you can have a read building your website thinking seo. Once you will be done (i say once you will be done because i presume you will have to make some changes) building your website you can publish it and work on offsite seo.
And in time they'll probably realize you were still building the site and let you off with a slap on the wrist. Ironically though, I think your site will be better off for it in the long term given that word got out about your site before it was even finished!
there are two main steps for seo. you have to complete on site seo and build backlinks as uch as you can do
Thanks for the suggestions ! so I am getting some hints on SEO Ok then Please correct me on my understanding on SEO.. SEO includes Keyword Research Putting title page with that researched keywords(Optimizing)different Descriptions in different pages, Use of H1 to identify title of the page Blending keywords in the content of the page Use of Image tags Is there any I missed? So basically SEO is not about writing fancy codes in php and others, this is like managing site to prepare for search engine? Please suggests for this fast learner! Thanks for your time Duke
give URL name according to your targeted keywords, make sure that more competitive keyword will give more benefits.
I always find the best thing to do is look at what your competition have done. Lets say you are targetting puppies; look at the top 10 results on page one and analyse the sites. What are they doing that you're not? That can often guide you on how much on page/off page SEO you need to do to rank for some keyphrases. There are a few other things like age of site etc etc, but stick with this first and you'll get there.
