I'm a newbie seller with inventory on hand. I am looking for advice on which low cost eCommerce platform to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could sell your items on ebay.
Or if you want to start your own site a wordpress blog with paypal order link or opencart if you have various items or magento if you need to run a complex store.

Try my site... listyoshit.com for quick and pain-free listings for stuff you want to sell.

EBay is a good wholesale option. Unless you have really specialty items (like collectibles) you can't really sell anywhere else.

Wordpress is excellent to me. I used Paypal with Wordpress, and once the traffic came, the sales were steady.

I just hate Paypal because they are not a bank and they can seize your funds whenever they feel like it (and have done that to me repeatedly) without any recourse.

You can use BigCommerce or any other eCcommerce application and then integrate one of payment processors (i.e. Authorize.net) which allows you to deposit payments directly into your merchant bank account. You can still accept Paypal payments from buyers instead your funds are not sitting in Paypal's bank account.

If I were you I'd try out Volusion. It costs $15/month and it comes with a ton of features. It will definitely be a great investment.

If I was looking into a free one I'd use Magento.

If you aren't a coder then any open source system might be a little tricky to get into. I have a shop which only sells goods in the summer season and was thinking of doing so online as well, but opening a shop every summer is going to be rather expensive. So looking for options, I found this: http://goo.gl/RiZwH Might be good for you as well if you don't have stuff to sell on a regular basis.

It is depending upon how large your inventory is, if you are having small inventory; i recommend going with wordpress commerce. Very easy to mange and various plugins are available in market to integrate payment gateway.

    all the best.

Newbieseller, I assume is new to the idea of e-commerce and it also doesn't sound as if he/she will be selling a big number of items. Unless he/she wants to invest time, money and effort into, I would not go with magento, despite it being very good. bluehost.com is purely a hosting service, which means there is no shopsystem there. Under the link I posted earlier you can see that these guys offer the full package, hosting and shopsystem.
