I was just curious if some one could explain why I would be in the top twenty pages in msn for my wanted term but down into the hundreds of yahoo and google?

Because they all use different algorithms. MSN is the least advanced of the three, has the smallest traffic, and most people target google. Google is about quality links from authority/trusted sites.

You should target Google not MSN. They generally have different things they consider when ranking website. Google has the highest traffic, and therefore the highest competition. It maybe easy to rank with other search engines, but Google is the king of search engines. If you rank high with them you have it all!

I have a site just like that. It seems MSN loves fresh backlinks, a constant flow of fresh backlinks. Try getting new backlinks on a regular basis and see if your rankings don't improve.

Don't you just love it when you "why" and a bunch of people answer with "how"....

Anyway, it seems that MSN/Live weigh on-page factors heavily. So, things like the number of times your keywords appear on the page and in titles, links, and tags helps your position. With G, things like the number and quantity of links to your site are more important. Also, the relevancy of those links and the overall site "quality" are important.

    Hope that helps.

As you are asking a question which i will answer to the point.

The sites you are getting the backlinks from are trusted by MSN and are crawled regularly.

try to get links trusted by google and yahoo it works almost the same when it comes to the rankings i think.
