    You say that the sandbox is a myth but then that it takes time for your site to gain trust and for the links to mature.

    Thats exactly what the sandbox is.

    And yes, it does exist. For some competitive search terms.

    One where there are hundreds of strong websites actively targeting the term by optimizing their homepages for that term.

    Another indicator is the number of PPC adverts and the amount you have to pay to get to the top 3 via PPC.
