Thank you Ann for your nice and valuable comment. I am happy to hear that you like my logo although I have designed very intuitively. I am working on another my website where I am going to put the sidebar there and I will change my layout a little bit for 2 columns layout of text content. I will move left side photos into the top header and they will be presented in slide show.

Thank you Cliff for your nice comment. This old photo is really old but it is not old. It was taken by me at the end of 70 years so it was such a fashion that time. That guy in army uniform (my neighbour and friend, too) on his couple days holiday visited his home.

Looks good man, nice job on your first site! The only thing that sticks out to me is your columns, they are two close to 50 / 50 so I don't know what to focus on. The only person who can get away w/ that is Jakob Nielsen (useit.com). I would try switching it 70 / 30 or so and you will be good to go.

Thank you for your comment. I think you are right and I am going to use this in my next website. Also I will try to use such a column ratio in current website, too.

    Hi Richard,

Really nice first site! I like the layout - simple and reflects what you are offering with the colouring photo service. I checked out the newest camera section, which just contains a photo and price of a nikkon camera perhaps add why it is the best camera- if it is one you use, tell us why you use it. I would make the site a bit more personal so people coming to your site can learn more about you and your expertise. What camera you use, how long you have been doing this etc. I am sure you know what you are doing but try to show the customer a bit more about why you are an expert and why they can trust you with their memories!
Other than that, really good job. I am sure you will continue to improve on your first effort as you go and will have a perfect site in no time!

Love the concept of turning photos from black to color and repairing, never gave it a thought and in fact never even thought that this could be done, idea is awesome, and when the idea is awesome, the rest of things comes later...

Well, some points that I would share with you, which you should focus on:

    Homepage:
    1. Logo (Though the logo text and color used in it are very explanatory to the type of service you are offering to people, but emphasis can be laid on making it even more better, because pictures say thousand words)
    2. The homepage consists of empty spaces, though maybe you reserved that space for future use, but I think homepage should never have a small scroller. According to a blog that I read few days earlier, people usually spend 8 seconds of their time on homepage to make a decision if they want to go and explore the website deeper. So, add important things and pay attention to layout and design. Tips: Increase width of the page
    3. Typography is very much important to any website. You can search about this topic and you will understand how the basic typography can attract million of online customers visually. Font family and sizes should be worked on.
    4. From what I see, you want to design a elegant website. Black and white with some color images. You can review other elegant websites and how they attract customers. The biggest example that I can show you is Apple's Website.

I will try and review other pages later on, these things were only related to the homepage

Thank you very much for your nice and valuable comment with a lot details.
I think my logo contains text in the middle and photos on both sides. Those photos are symbolic extending logo meaning.
I don't think my homepage has too many empty spaces. I don't think it is good idea to overload the page with a lot of text and other items. This website is simple one and it does not need to have a lot of information.
I realize that on homepage should contain the most important content to attract visitors and keep them longer on my website. Of course, I will constantly work on improving this content but it is not easy to do that straight way.

Hey there! The website looks very clean and the design is effective - perfectly serves the purpose!

A couple of guys before me said you need a bit of work on the logo - it can be simpler and more symbolic, and you don't need to put those 2 images on the sides having in mind you already are showing before/after samples a bit lower on the page. black2colour is a very good and descriptive name for the website/firm you got anyway.

For the overall design of the website, space can be used a bit more effectively. You could use a slider in the top part to show 5-6 before/after images (those big image areas on top of some sites - here's an example - http://webdesignledger.com/inspiration/21-excellent-examples-of-sliders-in-web-design) since having big high res samples of your great work with restoration/coloring is what will impress people and turn them into your clients.

The rest of the text could be a bit better organized with having a distinguished sidebar and main content area.

Someone also suggested that you should use Wordpress for your new website, and this is a very good idea. Why? Because it's the easiest CMS to customize and there are some nice starter themes that are very very easy to stylize (most famous one being 'Bones'). If you have managed to do that with coding from scratch you can do some amazing job with Wordpress. It also has a built in code editor which removes the hassle of uploading revisions or working through hosting provider's systems which are not very suitable for coding anyway.

Another reason to use it is because it has a lot of plugins that come in very handy when you have to save some coding time. It's very fast and easy to learn working with Wordpress and you will find it great when you get used to it.

Anyway, whatever you choose - you have an interesting business and from what experience I have with photo restoration (from some uni courseworks) it's something very enjoyable and fun to do - I wish you success with it!

    Cheers! ;)

Really nice site, looks professional. I have to disagree with 'dreamzdb' on the coloumns issue. I think it looks nice the way it is, you want to show what is possible with old images. Making one column narrower wouldnt work the way its laid up right now.
    Nice work!
