It usually takes weeks or months before a directory even adds your site so give it some time.

I wonder how many of these naysayers actually took the time to MANUALLY submit to directories? By manually I don't mean software, copying and pasting, etc. By manually I mean actually writing a unique and worthwhile submission set (title, description, meta tags when able, etc.). If you submit the same title and description to thousands of free directories, the end result will be poor - its nothing more then duplicate content. Anyway, most of the better directories need some sort of funding to reinvest into their directories to generate traffic for the listed sites and sustain any type of long term growth.

Google's crawler has a very complex system for crawling back links. It is usual that you may see a 1000 of backlinks using Yahoo but only 30-50 backlinks in Google for the same site. It is just their algorithm. They give more weight to links from big sites. And moreover directories are complete waste of time in terms of backlinks. Very few are worthy enough for submission

I just can say that directories are waste. Google takes some weeks to get crawled. Also you did not get backlink from directory. You got backlink from vbadvanced, so think yourself.

Patience is the best thing for SEO. You never know when you will success in that business. SO its better to focus on that strategy and not be so irresponsible.

Lots of people are mentioning DMOZ but how many people have been accepted by DMOZ ? It's very difficult to get listed and you have virtually no chance if your site is predominantly e-commerce or affiliate based.

Directories are main a waste of time and I had a website submitted to 1000 directories and guess how many links I got from them (using Yahoo)... less than 100.
You have to remember that when you add a link to an old directory your link will appear on page 20 or so thus it will take ages till search engines find them.

Seems like more and more of the directories are going for a reciprocal link or a paid link to even get accepted. Also, it can take up to six months, sometimes longer, to get a live link from a directory. If you have automated your submissions then it is not a waste of time because some will get accepted and some of those will get counted.
