While I have lots of experience with web design, SEO, and internet marketing in general, I am a complete rookie when it comes to affiliate marketing. I have opened accounts with CJ and Clickbank, but am not sure which direction to take from here. Can some of my successful fellow members throw some advice or tips out there on what I should do from here? Your help is greatly appreciated...
So, you're already signup as publisher for CJ and Clickbank. I know a little bit about CJ but not Clickbank. What you need to do on CJ : 1. inside your accont, click on "Get Link" - General Categories. Make sure on Search column you choose advertiser. Choose any categories you want eg: Gift and Flowers 2. New window appear. Choose your selected advertiser by click on their banner/logo - new window appear 3. Drag down and click on "Apply to Program". Follow their guide. ( End of part one) - some advertiser will approve right away and you can get on to step 4 below. But some of them will email you within a few days. 4. Look at "Get Link" - choose what type you want to put on your blog/site. 5. Let see, If you choose "banner"-click on it. then you'll a lot of banner size been display. Choose which ever you think suitable 6. If you found one, click on "Get Java Script - Get HTML" 7. Copy the code and paste it on your blog/site. 8. And you're done Good Luck
Thank you shraqshaq for the help, but I did figure that part out a while ago. I guess my main confusion is exactly what to do from here. Do I now set up a Wordpress or Blogger blog? What are the best ways to generate traffic to the blog? Do I need to add a bunch of articles to the blog? My mind is kind of stuck as far as which direction to go...
Either wordpress or blogger will generally yield the same results. Look around the forum for traffic generation tactics...there are too many to list, and it is hard to pick "best way"... In you have a lot of experince in SEO then it is the way to go for you
decide on the products you want to promote ...look for high gravity and get your affiliate links then go to a site such as godaddy and redirect to a paid link.
The easiest and fastest way to drive traffic is using Stmbleupon, Digg (social network). But, if you need a good traffic in a long term, better you wrote an article. Wrote article about the product and send to : EzineArticle, Helium, Associate Content. You also will be paid from them for your articles. Good Luck
Most recent rookie question(s): being new to the affiliate game, I thought that I could just build my Wordpress blog, add affiliate ads and promote it. After doing a little research, I realize that Wordpress doesn't allow AdSense or affiliate ads...D'oh! Any pointers/advice on where to go from here? Are there any companies out there that will host your Wordpress blog for free and allow you to post AdSense or affiliate ads? Any suggestions for sites that offer free affiliate-friendly Wordpress themes? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Well, its hard to explain in two words but in general. Forget about ads and offers at first you want to build a good resource, say an article site about topic, like: supplements, weight loss, clothes, dating whatever you like. Build a solid site say 50 pages+ optimize it so it gets you say 100+ visitors a day, and then you can start adding product reviews. E.g. if you are talking in the article about online dating tips, then at the end of article you can include link to a dating site where the reader will be able to find somebody to date (you get paid affiliate commission, be it % or CPA). If you have a weight loss website then you create say top 3 weight loss products your site recommends and you link your articles to this page so people can find again their solutions. It is quite simple - just get the proper site up.
