ok so i currently own the site www.taktion.com . my friend wants to make a website built from that but he wants his own doamin name and ability to manage his own site. is it possibe for him to do that off my site somehow? i have dreamweaver cs4 if that matters..
Uh, no, it's not possible. The website/domain www.taktion.com is just that, if you want a different site, example.com for instance, you'll need to register that new domain and associate hosting with that. It doesn't matter what sort of 'web-building' software you have or use.
A subdomain would give you something like friend.taktion.com Your friend could setup an independent website on it, you just need to setup the subdomain on your hosting account. You should be able to give him FTP access to just the subdomain so he doesn't mess anything up. If he needs a mysql database or anything though, you'd probably have to set that up and give him the information unless you trust him enough to access your cPanel and not mess anything up.
Does it matter though from a visitors or buyers perspective whether they see a dedicated or shared site? I mean, using unrelated random names to illustrate my point, does it look odd or bad to have taktion/flowers for selling flowers only, taktion/weightloss for that product, and taktion/ebooks for those? Or is it better to have dedicated web site names? Sorry if this is diverging from the first question but it did get my attention.
i think that kind doesnt matter...but i think it matters if its like flowers.taktion.com thats just my opinion..my friend just wants his own 'section'
He wants to know if it's better to have: flowers.domain.com ebooks.domain.com weightloss.domain.com or if it's more professional to have: flower.com ebook.com weightloss.com To answer your question, it's more professional to have them as seperate web properties, but it's not the end of the world. It's really good to keep them seperate for branding purposes, but if you are just promoting affiliate products it won't be a big deal to use a single domain, it's quite common for affiliate marketers to use a single domain to promote products. It's a bit of a problem for SEO as the search engines prefer domains to stick to a specific niche rather than spreading multiple niches, but it's not the end of the world. And if you are successful you can always move your content to a domain dedicated to a specific niche and use permanent redirects anyways.
