Exactly. I am amazed at how many people fail to understand that.

Gandhi, who some people mistakenly believe to have been a pacifist, had this to say on the topic: "I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence."

Grrr... it's not Mexican food without jalapenos!

Ah... but in Islam it's her fault for causing him to beat her.

He forbade from drinking wine. He never drank wine himself.

Anything which makes you lose your consciousness is forbidden. Which includes drinking, drugs (unless its for your health like in medicines), etc. However Tobacco is allowed to a certain amount.

    Marijuana is natural too. :p

Amphetamines are a drug that cause you not to "lose consciousness."

Imagine drinking a cup of coffee -- every ten minutes. :D

What about coke? Kind of crazy anyway. The muslim countries are the largest growers of opium poppies.

We should just let them continue to grow it and let them consume it themselves.

The funny thing is that they give death to dealers in their country yet make money exporting it.

Non-alcoholic beer is allowed. You can't drink alcoholic beer.

But Non-alcoholic beer still contains alcohol so I'm a bit perplexed as to what makes it ok?

Sure I can... come over and I'll demonstrate. You mean people arent *allowed* to? They should move someplace where there's freedom... or away from a religion that doesnt support it.

I was born into a restrictive religious environment too (Southern Baptist to be specific), but I grew up. :) Impossible to swallow the duplicitous silliness that the guy Christianity is named after turned water into wine... but the doctrine they practiced forbade its sale, manufacture, or consumption.

So thanks to the ever-compounding wisdom of men, by the time the worship of Christ reached my generation the guy the religion supposedly followed wouldnt qualify for even a minor post of responsibility within the ranks. Perfect example of compounded stupidity... the work of one well-intentioned idiot following some other well-intentioned fool who followed a control freak who followed... etc, etc.... Over time things DO get distorted.

Most religions have a bad tendency to rank the ideas of men even with (or above) what their maker intended. There's a good argument for stopping and using your head occasionally. Hardline Islamists forget that despite years of embellishment varnished upon varnish... Mohammed was a guy. He had faults. Following every little word of anyone, especially snippets taken out of context, is a bad idea. The "death to the infidel" guys are a good example of rank stupidity... brainless followers whose actions defy logic and morality.

Religion by definition is man's attempt to commune with God. Unfortunately its practice is flawed because men themselves are. I have no "hatred" for Islam, but the adherents that would set themselves up to convert others at the point of a blade will in the long run reap the reward that such actions have brought those with similar goals. They need to take a breath and get a grip. Personally I think they oughta loosen the turban and go grab a beer. Do 'em some good.

One thing I have learned about Islam is that there is ALWAYS and exception to the rule. ALWAYS!!!

Murder, wrong - unless its a Jew or Christian.
Rape, wrong - unless its a helpless prepubescent child.
Suicide, wrong - unless its done using a bomb that takes infidels with them.

And people think the "Bible" is contradictory at times. SHEESH!!!

The Bible will always be presentable as contradictory when passages are taken out of context rather than being read as a whole.

I believe in free will. Not being a "religious slave".

That is very hard to understand for many who have been subdued by dictatorships, religious fanaticism and tyranny.

Some are able to overcome, most just lay down and let things happen.

I am in a predominantly Muslim country at the moment. Christians are here, but more underground than above ground.

You cannot communicate with those who have the slave mentality and only know orders and have never been able to live their lives freely and doing something to please God rather than just complying by rules other humans have put upon them and control them with.

The stories I will have to tell ...

I should have been more specific. The "Bible" by itself is not what breeds contradiction. Its the various religious interpretations that facilitate the contradiction and hypocrisy.

Growing up Catholic, I've found life to be much more pleasant taking things up with God directly.

The usual line would be about the old testament breeding violence and ignoring the fact that Jesus himself was the one putting an end to that in the new testament.
