I wanted to create a website with reviews of the cellphones of Sony Ericsson, can I put the name "sonyericsson" into my domain name or is this an infringement of copyright? For example, can I create a website with the domain "topsonyericssonreviews.com"?
It often depends upon the policies of the company. Some don't care and see any mention as free advertising others strictly guard their trademarks and would probably come after you. This would be better placed in the legal forum as copyright is sometimes related to writing issues but this is actually a trademark question.
It will qualify as a trademark violation if they ever file -- but whether or not they will file is open to speculation. It is better to just avoid TM domains, not just for the potential legal hassle but for longevity and SEO reasons as well. It is easy to get a good cellphone domain and build pages optimised for Sony phones. Over time, as people's taste in phones change, the domain stays the same -- you build and keep your branding -- but the content changes. And the authority you build over time makes it easier to rank on future terms as well. Short version: Sony does not have a history of UDRP complaints. They've let several trademark-infringing domains go right under their noses on domain auction venues (eg. NewSonyPSP2.com which sold for $5,000 at SEDO in '07, VaioSoft.com which went for $2,300 and change a couple of months ago at TDNAM etc.) But "you'll probably get away with it" is hardly a good foundation for a business model. You said it all, this IS NOT the "copyright" forum but the COPYWRITING and there is a sticky thead above ths clearly stating that copyright questions should not be poster nor discussed here. That's what the Legal Issues (and Domain names in your particular case) forums are for.
