    hey,

i recently bought a domain registered with godaddy.

Right now it is parked but i would like to develop it.

What do i need to purchase in order to create a website with my domain.

I am guessing hosting. do i have to purchase hosting with godaddy? if not, which site offers the cheapest hosting?

    thanks

The only thing you need is a shared hosting account. If it is a hobby site where uptime and speed is not important you can buy really cheap hosting to get you started. There are offers in these forums for hosting as low as 5-10 $ per year.

I would suggest that you go with a cPanel hosting provider as cPanel is the most common control panel and is easy to learn. I suggest you not buy from Godaddy as they just aren't that great of a host. Once you have a hosting account you will need to change the nameservers to point to that account. That is a really simple process when registered at Godaddy.

If you are going to build a pure html site you can build and view it on your local computer before you ever buy a hosting account.

You also need to think about the type of site you want to build. You may need to find or buy an inexpensive script to power the site.

Try to post any questions you have in the proper forum for your question (this question here is slightly off topic for this forum) and you will find a lot of people willing to help you.

    Welcome to webmastering.

I would get the website built first before you pay for hosting, dowload wamp and run a testing server and build your website on that.

Just check around know what your going to do with the site IE.. personal use or business then chose a plan that fits those needs. Cheap hosting doesn't always mean that its the best thing for you. Like wise just because it cost more doesn't mean its better service or product.

5-10 year is super cheap. I use HostGator, which I have had no problems with, and they charge roughly that per month.

Best to get your website developed first, you can get free website templates if you search on google. You can then add content to that template and upload it to your hosting. I Recommend going with GoDaddy or HostGator for hosting... you will just need the Shared Hosting Plans most likely.

I would use hostgator (use the coupon jury or wordpress)
I personally think you should set up a blog or another type of web 2.0 site.

You have your domain name, now you will need to choose a web host.

Make sure the web host is reliable with support. This is key if your a newbee starting out. Sometimes you need answers from the source fast.

When I first started out, I used a free host but soon found out that it wasn't for me. I realized that I didn't know squat and needed to do more research. DO your DD (Do Diligence)

Get shared hosting. Search at Web hosting at DP itself and you will come across some good web hosting service providers. Check their itrader, reputation and reviews before hanging your neck out with them.

I'll be the first and last to say that getting hosting is important, however as you can tell from the suggestions on this thread, their are various ways to host the site, and different platforms to use. From blogs, to CMS, to forums, to galleries, the possibilities are endless. Now that its understood that you need hosting, let me pose the next question: What are you trying to achieve with your site, is this a hobby site, e-commerce site, etc ?

I suppose that you can use parking services from somewhere for the domain name you have. I'm sure that will save some money to you.
