You may take a look on ebay, there are all sorts of cheap domain names being resold there on a daily basis. You can through out some low bids and see what you can come up with.
ebay, forums, register a .info at godaddy or you could get a .in (India) at dynadot for $2.99. Of course, both cost more to renew after the first year. I personally would double my budget and get a nice .com that will suit your needs. You can register/renew .coms at godaddy for approx $750 or you could find a decent one on the reseller market for ten bucks or less..
You could buy any international domain (.com, .net, .org, etc...) for 3.99$ -first year only- at globat.com .
.info it`s the cheapest tld you can find several domain sellers who offer such a tld for a really low price. try also ebay (as someone else said) or you can try this forum at sell buy or trade forum but for new domain .info it`s the best for now.
