The tech support sucks with HELM. HELM is not reliable. It has taken 3 weeks for them to figure out what was wrong with it and it still doesn't work. I had to go in and fix the damn thing... They charge you an ARM and A leg and it doesn't do have of what you need it to.. The Subdomains don't create a host A record so they don't work. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Is there any server control panel out there that is easy to set up and will work the way they advertise? I am sick and tired of these idiots!!!
I appreciate the offer however, we are not looking for a system admin. We are looking for a control panel that does what it is supposed to, not one that cuts corners to make the programmers life easier, ultimately making the life of the user harder. We are looking for a control panel that makes it easy and takes into consideration 99% of all scenarios that can possibly happen in a server environment not one that wants you to learn how it works and you are limited to what it can do and they will always do it there way and they are not about to change now. What a waste! When HELM creates a sub domain instead of properly creating the DNS Entry for that domain and then allowing you to change the IP for that subdomain (which I have needed on more than 1 occasion now), it presumes that you do not want a different IP for HOST A Record *. Why should I even HAVE to know that!!!!???? Well if you do want a different IP for * now your subdomains are broke. How !@#$ing STUPID!!!! Why would anyone want to use a stupid control panel like this that is so limited in what it can do it is hard to breathe when you go into the admin. I HATE THIS CONTROL PANEL... It was the biggest waste of money. The tech support is less than adequate... only 1 guy really knows what he is talking about and he is in the UK so be lucky if you can get him if you are in the US. My Advice to ANYONE looking for a control panel is to stay away from HELM. This was the biggest waste of $800 we have ever spent. We should have sprung for a small linux box and went with HSphere.
IMO if you have to use a control panel you shouldn't be trying to admin a box by yourself. If you don't know what's going on behind the scenes, you're letting yourself in for a whole world of trouble. Control panels are great for letting less technical people manage their own services. They're not a replacement for a competent admin.
Plesk is pretty good. I use webmin but I don't recommend it for novice users. Plesk support is pretty good too.
HELM SUCKS!! I agree however, a control panel should make it easy enough for you to do this so you don't have to know everything that goes on in the background. That is what they are there for. "To make your life easier" HSphere was this way. Unfortunately HSphere runs on Linux and we no longer have a linux box to integrate this with our windows box, so we are stuck with the SUCKY windows control panels such as HELM!!! When you did something. It worked. You didn't have to know what was in the background or the workings of it. That is why they have hosting companies that offer managed services like www.crystaltech.com so if something screws up then they can fix it. They can take care of what you don't know but you shouldn't have to use them for tasks the control panel should do. Did I also mention that when you make a suggestion to them they refuse to take your suggestions unless you suggest it in their forum. And then they will only implement them if enough people ask for it. They won't impement them because the control panel should do that... You have to have multiple people ask for it.... WTF???
When a person can't understand how the things work the most common attitude is telling that it sucks… Ignorance is not bliss in this area
When a control panel does not do what it is advertised to do and you have to have the people that created it fix the installation that they themselves installed, what does that tell you! When it gives off errors even after the creators get done what does that tell you?! HELM SUCKS!! When you have to have someone program it specifically because it doesn't have a simple option such as an unsubscribe or cancellation form with it... what does that tell you? How about when it doesn't perform a 10th of the functions that it claimed it would without having extensive behind the scenes programming knowledge of helm such as the creators... how about that! Let's take a look at the facts.... what do we come up with. HELM SUCKS and is NOT user friendly!! Have a great day!
