See, this is why my family does so poorly in arenas where popularity counts. No one ever understands us ... sob sob ... poor us.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Actually, it wasn't a comeback; I was totally serious. You'll know it when we make jokes, because you won't think they were intended to be funny. Unless you're a Vietnam vet or a drunken, retired philosophy instructor. But thanks for pointing out that it was too late for a comeback. Henceforth we'll stay logged into this forum and keep it on our screen so that we may be able to assault you with our humor three seconds after the opportunity arises.

For some, yes. For my family and friends, not so. If I may quote from my "Things To Do Today" list:

    (2) Demonstrate that much of what people refer to as "Google griping" reflects a dissatisfaction not so much with Google itself but with a society as blatantly retarded as ours is:

    (a) We pretend to promote individuality and free thought, but we really just want you to keep your mouth shut. Being a good dog is prerequisite to obtaining everything from from jobs and spouses to good theater tickets. Amateur designers who assume that search engines care only about content tend to flip out when they find that—yes, in the world of search engines as well—no one cares about creativity; it's all whom you know and whom you ... kiss up to.

    (b) We use "Google" in place of the verb "to search [the World Wide Web]" when we don't even understand the basic difference between Google and Yahoo. So, Google doesn't scare me—society does. If you care about the intellectual growth of our society, Google in the hands of an uninformed public is no less dangerous than a five year-old with a loaded machinegun.

Hard to argue with someone who advises Michael Jackson. I mean his advisors have obviously done such a bang up job of advising him that you just KNOW they have to be authorities.

I heard that his advisors recently told him to avoid Canadian prisons because Michael loves to vote. But you know, the laws have changed....

You didn't really think that quote was real, did you? Sometimes when one speaks symbolically, one can make a point to many different people on many different spiritual and intellectual levels. Of course, web forums might prove an exception to this.

    Speaking of symbolism, Goooooooooooooooooogle this:

    "ich bin ein berliner" donut

"Experts" will say it's an urban legend, but German professors will say that in the context of the speech it was definitely a big blunder. Our dad is pure German, and he laughed his butt off.

DG, I don't think anything you say is "real". What you do isn't called speaking symbolically, and it's certainly not making any points on different levels, and most certainly not on any intellectual levels. What you do is post baffle gab for the sake of posting and having the dubious pleasure of reading and arguing about what you've posted.

Put bluntly, what you do is pretty much a waste of time and space.

You're a very deep person ... although some might argue that your opinions about what I have to say could not be considered impartial, since nearly everything I've posted in this thread has been a parody of what good people like you think of me when you're having an off day. If you'd like anything translated ... just lemme know.

Before picking a fight with me or us, please give some thought to how much time you have on your hands and hypothesize that we are spoiled little rich kids with unlimited time and, because two of us have ADHD, absolutely unlimited, focused drive.

That's totally funny! Thanks for bringing that our attention. :)

What was there before at #1, the forum post someone wrote about "Why didn't Darth "Google" Skywalker," is no longer #1, but we have screen shots of Google showing this for our own viewing pleasure.

It's amazing how pathetic Yahoo and MSN is, especially MSN with all their resources. Yahoo in particular has all but sunk into the ocean. MSN ain't that far behind. Pathetic.

Personally I have found MSN quite resourceful, and quite accurate in terms of relevant searches.

That's all fine and well, but unfortunately for me and others who can't get into Google, no one uses MSN. Which really sucks.

We've found both Yahoo and MSN to have about the same results as Google for popular topics, but we've found them far superior to Google for unpopular topics, EXCEPT when searching for unpopular things about these unpopular topics, since Google often indexes the most pages.

In other words, an actress no one knows about, Yahoo and MSN; an obscure quote from an actress no one knows about, Google.

Although ... it seems lately that MSN is coming pretty close to Google in terms of indexed pages.

    --- Start Dream ---

i hope longhorn comes out soon and integrates search into the os so hard and deep that google screams lawsuit.

then ... 3 years later when it gets to court MSN has already dominated the search world.

    --- End Dream ---

This is interesting. I just discovered a few days ago that Yahoo has indexed nearly half of my site (over 9000 pages of content), when before that they only had 18 pages total. Pretty interesting. Alas, despite my indexed pages jumping from 18 to nearly 4000, Yahoo still sends me about the same amount of traffic, which is barely 1% of my total daily traffic.

Personally, I use Yahoo for searches, then Google if I don't find what I want, which is not often. The more arcane the thing being searched, however, the more likely to find it in Google, I must admit. They just have a lot more pages indexed. I do wish Yahoo or MSN would start something to compete with AdSense.
