I hate godaddy now for charging money of their choice for domain renewal

I hate godaddy seriously. I have several domains registered with godaddy and a few of them are registered with privacy protection. Now it is the time for domain renewal and godaddy is charging money of its choice for renewal. Every valid coupon I try to apply to get some discount,
it says "coupon is not valid for this item, we have already applied the discount". According to them I am given 18% discount and still a simple domain renewal is costing me $22.41. WTF.
Since when domain renewal become so costly that even after 18% discount, I have to pay$22.41? STOP making people fool !

They know my domain is registered with them since 6 years and I will not let it expire and renew it at any cost they charge. The same thing happened with me 20 days back when I renewed one of my other domain. In total, just for 2 simple domains, I need to pay $45 !!

Another thing I do not want privacy protection but they have merged it with domain and if I want to renew domain I must have to renew privacy protection too. WTF, I don't want privacy protection anymore, Why am I being forced to pay for it as well? I hate Godaddy for this monopoly !!!

Godaddy sucks, I am now moving to other registrars. STOP this monopoly !

You don't need to renew the privacy, just opt out of it on checkout.

Those promo codes don't work on renewals.

You really think they have someone from support is looking in at your account, "Ohhh yeah, we got him. He'll renew this one alright". You're not their only customer.

People are always complaining about the renewals, but never the promo codes they release. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

There is no option to opt out privacy protection. I must have to pay for it too while renewing. It sucks !

I don't want to apply any coupon but the amount for renewal should be justifiable. Why am I being forced to pay for privacy protection too when I dont it?. Where do you pay $22.41 for domain renewal?

You should move your domains to Namesilo.
Price at Namesilo: $8.99 with FREE whois privacy.
I use Godaddy for cheap new domains or for transfer only with $1 or $2 coupons.

    Hi,
We had a lot of problems with them and finally moved to resellerclub for safe and secure business.
    All the best.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the discounts are only for new domains. Noone complains when they charge $1 per domain, but I agree, that $22 is a bit excessive. But this is how Godaddy makes its money. So many times I have recommended namecheap to people (about $10-$11) for a domain, and they run to godaddy with a coupon for $1, ok, so I doubt godaddy is making money there, so they make the money back in the renewal fees.
You dont have to hate them, Its just time for you to find an alternative partner.

BTW. I wouldnt call them a monopoly. Just reading through your lines, it actually looks like you might have had a fantastic 5 years with them, its just the cost of renewal that you are disputing. You havent made any negative comments towards their system, or support. While I have never really liked godaddy, I just want to say that lower pricing isnt everything.

I didnt point their support doesnt mean its good. I once had to configure my blogger blog for the domain registered at godaddy. They clearly denied helping me with setting this up however with bigrock.com they did it in seconds. Also they neither have email support nor live chat, only option is to call them. Support is not good either.

When you get a recurring good on a super cheap price, it is expected that the renewals for this product will be quite more expensive than the initial price. Have you renewed your domain(s) before and is this the price you were paying? Or you initially registered the domain for a longer time and this is your first time renewing?

Not being able to opt out of Privacy Protection does sound concerning tho and this is what seems to be getting your price up. Try and contact GoDaddy and ask them if/how you can renew without the protection, this shouldn't be something you are forced into. Good luck.

    Hi Softech02,

Do take heart...You are not alone.

I, too, have noticed the yearly
    renewal payments getting bigger
    and bigger and bigger.

I have just given up trying to "fight"
    with that company regarding issues
    like these.

The thing is, it is a fantastic Registrar.
I feel completely safe staying put
    right there with them... mostly
    because they have the reputation
that is extremely important to me,
    when conducting business online,
    especially in these days.

You will need to make a decision based
on what is important to you, Softech02,
    safety or cost or both

I am sure you will figure it all out. :)

    best of luck.

    Cheers,

    Alodie

up until a few years ago I had about 20 domain names with GoDaddy, and you are right, they auto-renew at the prices they choose to charge which of course I found unacceptable. So i changed all domains to manual renew and started moving them to NameCheap. I only go to GoDaddy when I see a promotion for $1, but I always transfer them.

A friend of mine told me that Network Solutions was billing him for $175 for his domain name. 5 years at $35 a year! Talk about highway robbery :)

So you are not alone, and I hope that these big, greedy companies learn their lesson when people move over to these other smaller companies.

i am thinking of transfering my domains from godaddy to name or namecheap. I'm starting to like Godaddy less nowadays.

Time to change domain provider if that would be the concern. Contact support as well that may help.

^ This. Stop thinking the initial price you paid the first year is what you will always pay.

Move to NameBright, seriously I've saved so much by telling Godaddy to piss off. You can transfer any expired name, up to 18 days after the expiration date.

Wow, namebright price is less than namesilo price. $8.53 for .com is awesome.
