It crashes? Hmmm, I have had FF @ work running for about 100 days without restarting (in M$ WinXP). Maybe a buggy extension is causing the problem or even bad ram (one of the main culprits of crashes). FF quite possibly does use a lot of RAM, especially because it has more features and isn't an intergrated part of the OS. Right now I have 14 tabs open in FF and about 10 extensions installed. Memory usage is 79MB. I just open IE6 (to a blank page) and memory usage is 17MB. Opening a an additional window for IE has led to 35MB memory usage (one window is cnn.com and the other is google.co.uk). I've opened 3 more windows - passport.net login page, digitalpoint.com and newscientist.com - and memory usage for IE just settled down at 47MB. I think there's not much difference between the two in terms of memory usage.
Did you know that Internet Explorer is not considered a browser. If i find the website ill edit my post and show you.
I believe the quote he is thinking of is IE (in M$ Windows) is an OS component rather than an actual browser.
I think the quote means; IE is an OS component providing HTML rendering capabilities to the OS. Look at the way you can just type www.url.com into the address bar of explorer and ta-da ... HTML is rendered. Active Desktop is another example of how IE is an OS component.
Try putting up a URL in a Windows Explorer window. It will take you to the site..so Windows Explorer is also a web Browser, isnt it? IE is not a web browser, its a DHTML renderer OS component, the most basic web application. FF/Opera/Netscape are far more powerful and stable than IE. In other words IE sucks, period.
