I got an infraction this morning for something I posted in this thread last night. I'm here to apologize. I completely misunderstood the rules for this kind of thread and did NOT intentionally break the rules. Out in the forum index page, there is a blurb under the "Affiliate Marketing" sub-heading that says, in part: I guess I don't understand what this means. I thought I was following this rule. I think I'm an active member. Am I wrong? Would appreciate some input on this. Thanks. CJ
I never noticed that sentence. I've been here quite a while. To me, that says we can post our affiliate offers? oops! .......BUT, I know, as I've read the rules all over the place, that we're NOT allowed to post our affiliate links in our post replies or threads. Signatures only. In addition. What that means, most likely, is the owners and supervisors of such places as MaxBounty, PepperJam (and others), can make threads and posts about what promotions they are offering to publishers.
I figured that was a rule for this, too. I didn't post my affiliate link. The link lead to a blog post of mine!
I have been looking around and there are a number of posts with affiliate links posted clearly in the posts... and yet NO INFRACTIONS for them. did I piss somebody off???
That's not true. They own up to their mistakes. They are human! I have a some infraction experience, yes, shocking I know! Hundreds of people report these types of posts every day. Moderators will delete them if you use the report button. And, keep in mind, we never know WHO or WHO NOT has an infraction (unless they, themselves, blab about it). PS. A lot of us webmasters, If I may call myself one, will post about an article that will help others on Digital Point, but, be aware, it may not be a BLATANT affiliate promotion. example, dont do this: HEY, DP, read my acai article, it's very helpful. .. then I click on it and get a banner to buy some acai thru your link. ^^NO NO But, if you have a resourceful article which is not primarily set up to buy stuff you're selling, that would be probably okay. It's a human judgement, and moderators make the call on an individual basis. You may not ALWAYS get the same warning across the board. .........not yet. You're still in the green
JoyGoRound, THANK YOU for the clarifications... it has helped me understand somewhat, but I still have a question. I just don't want to appear to be beating a dead horse. What's done is done, and I have always vowed to learn from my mistakes. So, I'll let it go at that. I thought my post was helpful and the blog link in the post went to my review of the program in question. I thought that was the idea. Apparently, someone else had a different idea. Okay. But now, I don't know how to make such a post in the Affiliate Marketing thread. The way I interpret the rules for that board is that: How does everyone else so it? I'm so confused... CJ
In post number two above. The last sentence, I was referring to the Affiliate Sites being allowed to publish their offers on Digital Point. Sort of an opinion/answer towards the confusion of : To be perfectly honest, I'm NOT sure! =)
Oh!! Now THAT makes sense. So, if an affiliate site has a product and the owner is an active member of DP, then "announcing" the offer so that affiliates are made aware and may sign up as affiliates...is what we're talking about here? Now I get it. It really needs to be MUCH clearer than that. I feel better now. Thanks! CJ
