I got scammed along with a bunch of others.

Don't feel like going into details really unless you are dying to know.

How do I get in contact with the host of a site? Do I find their info somehow through whois or...?

    Thanks

There are a few different methods. You can go to dnsstuff.com and do a a whois. Before you do that you may want to ping the domain name to find out what IP the account is hosted on.

To ping a domain open a dos or cmd box and simply type ping domainname.com. If it is reachable the ip number will be returned along with the time it takes.

At dnsstuff.com you can also find out where that IP is located and usually figure out who the machine belongs to. The listed nameservers give you a clue that you can follow.

No one source of information give you the complete picture in most cases.

I suggest contacting the webhost of the site. They have actual contact information because they bill them.

(that is unless you can find them by other easier methods like whois)

How do I find their host?

If they are on a dedicated, their nameservers are "ns1.site.com" and "ns2.site.com"

I can find their IP, but their host...?

Maybe if you state the web host in question, it would be easier to assist you that way.

Unless this person is blatantly breaking the law on their website, most likely the host will do nothing. The host will definitely not release personal details without a court order.

If you paid with your credit card or paypal, contact them, and/or report the crime to the police. Web hosts are not law enforcement. Their obligations are to their clients.

    Regards,

    Wyatt
