If I was starting a new forum, what are some of the general rules? i know this is going to sound strange, but when do you start getting moderators? do they get paid? How much?

establishing an active forum is harder than you may think... give it a run.. if the community grows bigger than you can handle, choose one of your trusting member to become moderator. usually becoming a moderator is a privilege, so if you're generous, you can pay them.

Asking for general rules? Why not trying to see the rules here. You can even pick some rules that you might use when you start a new forum site.

If I were you I would type in your keywords, add the word 'forum' or 'discussion board' at the end of the keyword/phrase and take some time to look around the forums in your market and see what you like and what works. Taking time to do this will ensure you do not waste time and effort,

Just trying to get a handle on what rules people expect. thanks for the suggestions. I'll make a set of rules and ask for your feedback, if you don't mind.
