Sure he has something to lose. If hundreds of DPers got links from the same site, the strength of his inbound link would be diminished.

the authoritative site really gives a boost on SE specially on G. Referral traffic from authoritative site added a factor on G (trust).

The original poster's experience with a high-PR link leading to a major rise in the SERPs confirms what Google explicitly states — that is, that PR is factored into their web search tools. And the evidence suggests to me that it is not just "a" factor, but a big factor.

I am not sure this is correct. He also mentions that the site has a lot of trust and that could be the factor that makes the link so valuable.

Its nice to see what a powerful link can do. I dont think we've ever seen a case study of the effects of a PR9 link.

I am back here. I would not say the webpage, since I am afraid people would give them a headache with all the submissions, etc.

But no need to say that either: It is a .edu site that has a directory. The main page of the directory is PR9, but the links to my webpage are PR7 and PR6. So they linked to me from several relevant categories, some PR7, some PR6.

There is no mention of it on this website. To find such directories, I would suggest doing a backlink check on an authority website in your niche, and then ask those people to add your site, too. Not all directories are directories such as the ones we always talk about here in DP, there are many directories in .edu sites. Sometimes, the people in charge of these directories do not even understand your site has ads on it. So as long as your site looks decent, they will add it.

My site has a forum, too. And normally I didn't get so much traffic to the forum. But right now, many threads rank on the first page of Google. And my target keyword does, too.

As someone said, the reason might actually be "trust" rather than PR. I had some high PR backlinks, too, but I believe, for them to be really factored in, I had to get at least one really trusted backlink. (Well, I got more than one, but all ffrom the same .edu site.)

No doubt it does make it a valuable, high-quality link. All of which factors into determining the PR. And the PR does, according to Google, factor into the search results.

well .edu is not the factor. But an .edu site being already authoritative in the niche is the factor.

It's possible for the site to stay ranked high as long as Google doesn't catch the irrelevancy (if his site is to the .edu directory).

In any case, a PR9 backlink is strong ;)

Look for .edus that have to do with what niche you're targeting. If you are doing health, try to get a link in the .orgs and .edus for health, medicine and wellness. Create good content and get links from the most valuable sites. Forums, blogs and other areas are good for .edu links from niche-sensitive sections.

If you doesn't want to share your information then it is useless to give half of it.
I don't believe on the things until I see them with my own eyes.

I believe this alright. A trusted pr9 link works. It would. It's an editorial link - so the links aren't discounted. Someone thought about it and added his link in two categories he fits in, so the links are on topic. In a case like this PR does matter, because all the other factors are good as well.

Since someone asked above, yes, it helped mostly with Google, and to some extent with msn, too. I am not very sure of msn, since my site was already tops in msn for many keywords, but right now it increased even more: So whereas it was #5, 6 for certain keywords, it is now #1 on the first page. As for Yahoo, there has been no difference, so far, in the SERPS.

The big difference was for Google, which never liked my site before. So my site was always like on the 10th something pages for main keywords despite all the backlinks I got.

And yes, the links from the .edu pages are relevant. However, as I said before the pages that are linking to me are not PR9, coz they are not linking from the main page of their directory. The links pointing to my site are PR6 and PR7.
