I got an infraction...

It was an honest mistake. I asked a question about what digging was in a thread asking for diggers and got cited for thread hijacking.

What exactly does an infraction mean and am I in any danger of losing posting privileges, etc? This is a great board and I don't want to be out of luck. Thanks.

Well it depends about the post and thread. If you could post details here then members might be able to guide you. Or you may approach a mod who would be able to tell you why ;)

Its a common problem faced by new members. I dont know about others but I too got infractions initially because I did not know all rules. Then I read all rules carefully and am working safe :)

Wikipedia states hijacking is the act of trying to steer a web forum discussion thread off topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the subject at hand.

While this can be an intentional act of trolling, it is often accidental - caused by other participants in the discussion responding to a throwaway remark, taking the thread off at a tangent to the original subject matter. The results, whilst sometimes humorous or otherwise interesting, often provoke a feeling of resentment from the author of the original post.

In your case you asked a question in a sales thread. Generally if you have a question, you can find the answer on Google or Wikipedia. If you can not find the answer there, start your own thread to ask the question in the appropriate area.

I suggest you check the FAQ in regard to posting guidelines, and infractions as well as the infraction sticky in suggestions and feedback to get a better idea of how things work.

Well, I got another one for posting this thread in the wrong forum. This forum is definitely more strict than others I have been a part of, which is probably good as there are many members, a lot of people talking about goods and services, etc...so I appreciate the mods and the time they put in to keeping this forum in good working order.

I just don't want to get banned. I think I'll go ahead and do this forum the right way, reading all the rules before posting in a new forum. ;) Thanks.

A couple of infractions won't hurt you...they will soon be expired. Don't let it bother you and keep on keepin up the good work! Just spend some time reading before posting, it always helps.

Just be careful. A general rule for the services section, is that you don't post anything unless you want to buy/work for the thread creator. Anything else is thread hijacking. If you have questions about internet activities or general questions, then you should look in other discussion-based sections of the forum.
