Hi, I have been hearing that alexa isnt good at all. Wondering why isn't it? I always figured they were the google of ranking???? Is there a better company doing it???
I don't know what you mean by good or bad, it's just that there has been controversial surrounding accuracy of the measurement of traffic using Alexa because visits are only counted, provided if the visitor has the toolbar installed. However, it is still important as it is used by some to determine the value of your site particularly if you want to sell links.
eh, 400,000 is nothing to be proud of. With alexa it's the lower the better, so anything under 100,000 is pretty good. Anything under 50,000 is really good, and anything under 1,000 is AMAZING! There are "alexa surf" bots if you are concerned with having a lower rank... it's really not that accurate though. Check out Compete rank *(compete dot com)... it's similar to alexa, but shows real traffic ranking (not just estimated). Hope that helps!
Anything under 100k is good for me. But it depends on the niche. Imagine an affiliate site with alexa like 50k that converts well. That's a goldmine! Alexa is good for selling links. Otherwise it just estimates the amount of traffic you have.

Alexa is a questionable ranking indeed, I have seen sites in the same niche where site A has a high alexa ranking (more than 1 million) but pulling in more traffic than site B with alexa rank of say 400,000.
It isn't that it is bad, it's just that it doesn't mean anything. There are sites with very little traffic but they have a high rank, while there are sites with a lot of traffic, but very low rank. You have to go by their daily hits.
