I got an email today threatening to shut off my affiliate program because I apparently breached the terms of service. It seems a certain computer company that rhymes with "bell" doesn't want you to use any part of their name your url. The site is only 4 weeks old but already is doing pretty well, and now I have to change the name, which I thought was a great domain name. Oh well, maybe you should read the fine print of those things after all!
?Sell? ?Hell? ?Fell? What company could it be? Sorry you have to go through that. It sucks when you find a great domain and then realize the trademark and affiliate TOS issues after the fact.
yeh it's kinda stooopid, you might as well have Dell products there...what do they want you to do? sell a rival brand?? just join a different pc related one, and put up a big sign... Don't buy Dell !!
Yeah, using trademark terms in a domain name can be pretty risky...I never understood how www.freeipods.com was allowed... you would think Apple wouldn't allow their product to be used, but I guess they figure it's free advertising
Hi folks - What about trademarked names on web pages? One thing I'm doing is product reviews of products I use and support - and naming a page after the line, "mossy-oak-outdoor-camo.htm," for example, others are K2 and Marmot. I wonder if I might be in similarly hot water with this...thoughts? SonicReducer - I am really sorry this happened to you. I hope you figure it out and get back on the road. Paul
Typical.I didn't like "bell" products to start with and then when they rejected me as an affiliate I really hate them now.I actively discourage anyone who talks about buying anything from them as they're products are pants IMO.I'm now on a "nice little earner" promoting products from another computer company ...rhymes with DC Furled
It is fine to not like dell.. but to claim they don't make good products is a bit ignorant. In some segements they are the best option.
Who said anything about Dell?I deny everything I was talking about these http://www.venusfashions.com/details/1/4872/1/Solid-Split-Bell-Pants.html They're available in chocolate to if you're a bit hungry.
It depends how you use it. I've received C&D letters from companies complaining about my use of their trademark in content on web pages. I usually take it down to not mess with it. You can play it safe by writing "--- is a registered trademark of ---" at the bottom of your pages.
