i give up w/ amazon

I've been using it less than 3 weeks and have £42 in the UK account and $3 in the US account. Based on past performance any my adwords stats today, I expect another £8-£10 today (I'll find out tomorrow).

To be fair, that's with £25 worth of bids, but of those, only £4-£5 was for the items selling. The other £20 or so was on badly chosen keywords - now I've stopped using them, the profit should increase quite a bit.

Like someone said before, it's basically worthless to use Amazon for little products...

DVDs & books = waste of your time
Jewelry, expensive clothing = much more worthy

 

Amazon gets traffic from webmasters for 2 reasons:
1. There are books relevant to ANY topic - large selection - so you can supplement any site with some Amazon revenue.
2. Customers like Amazon better than other booksellers.

The problem with Amazon is:
1. Commissions are low to start with; now they push big screen TVs to people who came to buy books so your conversion drops. big screen TVs pay nothing to you relatively to the cost (the higher the price the more visitors you need to make a sale).
2. There is no better alternative for books.

However, you can improve your conversions and profits by supplementing your income with magazine subscriptions via AcclaimSubscriptions -- the pay out is great on over 250,000 publications - largest publication catalog with international sales worldwide on one site so not a single customer is lost. I barely make any money with Amazon. The conversion rates with them are horrendous and their payout % is awful. Not a good combination! The big thing they have going for them of course is a huge selection of products.

What do you suggest to use to load Amazon or Ebay listings to the site? I think Joomla might have an extension.

I use a custom script that Gtech created... Works like a dream... I'm not sure he is developing it anymore, but on the ebay side of things, I would suggest using Gtech's ebay script!

AFAIK phpBay is a pay script.. Well worth it IMO though!

The sites I have that make money, I build by hand and charge a flat $400 per site typically, less the domain of course..

As an example, http://www.fastpowertools.com is doing $500 +/month in Amazon referral fees or in excess of $12k/mo. in sales..

About $150/mo. in AdSense, $500/mo. in Amazon referral fees. I did hand build the imagery, layout placement, template modification, and Amazon ID's, i.e., I hand picked / coded each and every category.

However, all the hard work was done using Gtech's script... There is a little learning curve, but not bad...

I was just wondering if it worth to add amazon referrals on websites. They pay only 4%. You have to have hundreds of targeted traffic to make a living... 10.000 unique visitors * 1% buy=100 sales. If I sell products at e.x $200 a piece, I get $8. So total earnings 100*$4= $400 only!

Anyway where can I find that Gtech script?
