I checked google analytics and my site stats page and I seem to be getting no refferals from the yahoo search engine. I know many of my pages are listed, I'm assuming that I'm not rating/ranking high enought. How can I increase my results from yahoo, do they have something like google sitemaps.
Yes, you can submit a site map / url list at the usual place: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request This will convert your Google sitemap to Yahoo's format: http://www.profitpapers.com/dev/yahoo-sitemap-generator.php Richard
While the ratio does hold true, ditching Yahoo isn't the best option. If your site ranks well in Google then don't worry about Yahoo too much. I wouldn't make any big chages to your onpage SEO but I would keep getting inbound links. Those links can help a site move up in Yahoo.
Does getting a link in the Yahoo directory help with rankng on their SE? Its a lot of money if it doesn't! I have read some people saying yes, some no but I would have thought they must use some sort of data from it as they own it?! I still can't decide whether to submit as the PR of the page I would be listed on is 4, no better than some cheaper directories- it would only be worth it if it helped in the SE too. Anyone found a big difference after submission, and as we are a UK company, how can I (pay) to submit without waiting a lifetime- through yahoo.com still?
I believe it does but your right, it is alot of money and you get more bang for the buck at MSB Central.
By MSB central do you mean the small business directory? I found that a couple of days ago but if there is something else I should do........I don't know what I would do witout this fabulous forum
One of our sites was listed in Yahoo directory and we received just few clicks for $299/year. We got more clicks from Yahoo search than from Yahoo directory.
Buying link in the Yahoo directory may bring a few visitors but it also can help your rankings in the SEs
I checked the pr of the catagory I would be listed in and it was only 4- because the home page is 9 does that mean the page I would be listed on is a 'better' pr4 than buying a cheaper pr 4 link from a directory with a lower home page pr? Hope that makes sense.......
No, not necessarily. The PR could be spread more thinly over a larger number of pages, so there's no way to know for sure. Anyway, you do know that Yahoo doesn't pass PR to sites in the directory?
No I didn't!!! So what is the $299 worth then if the directory doesn't produce traffic directly?!? I have a lot to learn (and I hope I don't end up broke by submitting to useless directories before I learn something useful )
The paid directory made better sense when the web was smaller and Yahoo a bigger fish. From looking at your site I'd suggest devoting your time into trying to build up and promote your forum and integrating it with your ecommerce efforts. If you have money to spend think - I don't know enough about this to actually recommend doing it - hiring a forum posting service and maybe buying some articles on your subject. If buying links were all it took we'd all be rich. Richard
Nah dont ditch yahoo, one of my sites bring me 40% of yahoo traffic also, so dont ditch it, it's a good medium.
