ON a website (another project) I get 14 unquies aday.. i want to imrprove that. I brought a 13k directroy submission package, for one day it was 512 unquies. thats it' the rest is now only 14-40 aday. how can I change this?

well i prefer email marketing i have a list of 10 million emails from all over the globe. i send marketing emails every 2-3 months and that really works
The same tips here: use place in forum signatures, leave comments on blogs and submit site to web directories. If you will do all this you will see the result after a while when google will index your site and give good ranks for your keywords. And you can also use paid methods like pay per click advertising.
There are several aspects of Internet marketing you can use such as SEO and Social Media Marketing. It depends on the niche of the site however by targeting some specific relevant keywords you could rank highly in the search engines by doing SEO.

The best way to get traffic is to write a good article or post on your site that people will want to read. Then submit to digg / stumble / etc. Also, make sure that you have a sitemap.xml, and that you are submitting that to google, yahoo, and msn. directory submissions aren't really worth it any more.
Did you build your site using SEO (i.e., Title, Meta tags, Sitemap, etc)? If not focus on that. Also, is your site optimized for your keywords? If not then do that as well. Also, it helps to add a new post to your site at least every other day.
Are you have multiple titles and descriptions for those directories submission? If they are all the same, then google will only count the one of the most authoritive site. So vast majority of those, probably after first 2k, have page rank of zero and duplicate entries doesn't help much. Also, if you went from 500+ uniques a day, to 14 to 40 uniques, those uniques are probably directories owners coming to your site checking to see if they would accept the site to the directories, rather than target customers. I post on free classified ads sites, join opt in list, post in social network, traffic exchange for the short term traffic boost while doing article submission, social booking, and other link building for longer term ranking.
