I found out something strange with these hosting company, i'm not sure if this is normally but let let me explain and you tell me. I sign up with Lunarpages, the service sucks, down time is more like 55% of the time so I switch to Hostgator and everything is working great now. This company (http://whoishostingthis.com/) tells you who is hosting any website, so I checked my website to see what it would say and found out that The Planet.com Internet Services, Inc is hosting my site. Planet.com is the company I did want to join in the first place but they only provide dedicated hosting only. So it seems Hostgator buy the service from Planet.com and sell it to me. What do you think?
Certainly quite possible, I just checked one of my websites that I'm hosting at Hostgator and that site said the same thing: The Planet.com Internet Services, Inc. That being said, I've never had any problems with Hostgator, they're pretty decent.
Good little website, yes a couple of my sites are with HostGator and it came up with the same thing, probably got a deal with that company and use their dedicated servers to host websites on. They'll just get discount and resell them that's all I think.
They are using their collocation service. Since the IP is for the Planet, then that is what shows on whois website. Peace,
From what I know, The Planet is a big technology centre where it has a HUGE bandwidth and can support HUGE demands of traffic. Many hosting companies either: 1) Put their servers on their rack and access them via Telnet, selling hosting services 2) Buy dedicated server from The Planet, selling hosting services Every country usually would have such big centre.
This is reseller hosting like one host buys some spare from other hosts and the distribute it to its members.
