    Mozilla firefox was based on Netscape navigator back in the day when NN was open sourced. The mozilla (netscape's mascot) project took the code and made their own browser, Mozilla. They then made another browser called Seamonkey which they renamed to Firefox. The mozilla foundation was formed.

    Netscape Navigator is owned by AOL. It isn't used very widely anymore.
    Mozilla Firefox is owned by the Mozilla Foundation. It is VERY popular.
