I don't understand why?

Sometimes you think of a good URL for a site, type it in and get a parked page. Sometimes the URLs are REALLY REALLY killer, in terms of SEO, and I often wonder, why the hell wouldn't the person who parked it just put up a relevant site and actually make a killing instead of pennies with a stupid parked page. Am alone on this? :)

They might be owned by someone who has hundreds of domains, and they're just parking it in hopes of selling it w/o having to put any effort in.

Agreed, there are certainly some killer domain names going to waste as parked pages. But the owners of these pages are likely domain name brokers whereby their business models are to simply park all their names en masse.

But I agree, it's a shame to see some names going to waste that way.

I believe there are several reason for keeping such domains parked:

    - Sale expectations, wanting to make thousands of millions just by selling the domain name.

    - Easy money, the more killer the name, the more likely people will type it in, making hundreds or thousands of hits a day, making enough money to keep them running for long, long years that way.

    - Laziness, lack or time or a solid project. Many people may get terrific names but not having the time or discipline to develop it, leave them as they are, sometimes parked for free, being the registrar services which take the money, not the owners

not really, its not a waste .. think of it like property .. some buy property to build a home, or a shop and some buy it to build a mall where they can rent the space at expansive prices.

and some make parking lots where they make money without doing a thing.

ones this people got good domains where they got type in traffic why should they wast money on building anything.. when others who do build will pay them a premium price for their typed traffic.

i do have a dozen of good seo domain names out there but didnt have the time to develope them. usually i let them expires...

yes i do get angry when people bought real good seo domain names and let it rot in cyberspace. So i guess people will be angry at me too :)

And when you email the owner to buy the domainname, they will charge you an arm or a leg.

I got one that I simply cannot find time to develop. Its not parked, but it shows a placeholder.
I know I should have developed it a long time ago, but somehow I cannot get around to do it.

you can earn money by just parking a good domain and wait for some interested perso to buy it in a good price. but i think the reason would still be lack of time to develop these domains

The SEO aspect of domain names are such that the moeny you can raise from selling one are far greater than anything you could earn from developing it, especially in a short time period. Also i think that the owners of parked donains simply dont have the time because they are working on other sites.

There are also real companies buying hundreds of domains per month just to set them parked and they charge big $$$ for it if you wanna buy a certain domain from them.
I once found a great domain and contacted the company who owned it and they were selling it for $10.000 (no traffic/pagerank at all, just sitting there doing nothing). It's pretty good business i guess if you sell a few of those per month :)

    But it's not fair, i know :(

i think some peeps buy these killer domains, get high traffic sent to it and then sell it for thousands of dollars/pounds... i saw a domain name go for $25,000 a couple of days ago, when they only spend like $10 or so on it...

Why dont these people use it as an addon domain for another site though :(

    p.s

im looking for a couple of moderators on my forums
