I've been doing SEO work for 7 years and the testing that we've done shows that theme relevant one way links have very little more value to Google than non-relevant one way links. So, I can't understand why almost everyone who posts in the LINK SALES forum is either buying or selling niche one way links. Aren't they passing up many chances to obtain strong low cost non-relevant links that have 95% of the value? Is "theme relevancy" for one way links an idea that was conceived by "expert SEOs" to drive up the prices of links? Or, is it an unfortunate (and mistaken) carry-over from the world of reciprocal linking?
if you analyze your top competitors for your selected keywords and then achieve link which are only relevant to your theme you will get quick result..........
Because most of webmasters doing SEO have very poor theoretical fundamentals. All around say "you should get relevant links" and novices start to believe in it without testing if it is true. I agree that theme relevance isn't worth any attention. We had a few researches that proved this point of view.
a link is a link, the stronger the better, but i'm sure a link from a related source will be stronger than a like-link from a completely unrelated source. i think more authority will be passed from the related link because you are effectively "associated reading", which is good.
You are absolutely right in my opinion about the value of so called relevant links. However, there are reasons for obtaining relevant links beyond pure SEO: 1. If you get a relevant link on a good site with traffic, there's also the possibility of getting click through traffic. 2. Non-relevant links would stick out like a sore thumb if your site was picked out for a manual review. So a blogroll link on a Britney Spears fanclub site is going to stick out like a sore thumb if you have a link to your insurance site. 3. Site owners who are willing to link to just about any type of site sometimes end up linking out to gambling/casino/pharma etc. sites. This increases their risk of being penalised and thus the link juice to your site evaporates. It's a much safer bet if you have a finance site to get links from other finance sites which only link to finance sites.
Great explanation. That's what really matters, when a website links only to other good sites or else it can lose trust rank (not the same as pagerank!) and become a bad neighbour.
Forget the SEO benefits of a backlink for a minute. Would you rather have referral traffic from an offtopic site or theme related site? Regarding the link sales section, the reason why these people want to buy/sell theme related links is quite obvious. First, theme related links do carry more SEO value and better converting referral traffic. Secondly, and most importantly to some in that forum, they want to avoid the appearance of paid links.
I was looking at my webmaster tools in Google the other day, and notice that it was only showing me relevant backlinks, so it may have more importance then you think...
