I dont understand - Keywork Ranking Question

For my recipe site, I had 2 example pages listed in google.

The titles were the only piece of information I changed, and in both cases, the page ranking dropped 1 position.

    For example,
Title was : Thai Recipes - Yellow Curry Chicken

I changed it to Yellow Curry Chicken - Thai Recipes

Now, for the term Yellow Curry Chicken, ive dropped a place?

Why should I drop a place when the page seems more appropriate?

Positioning seems to be changing on a regular basis, need only worry if you disappear all together ;-)

I just thought that if i was ranking for Yellow Curry Chicken

Then "Yellow Curry Chicken - Thai Recipes" would give better results than "Thai Recipes - Yellow Curry Chicken"

But it actually showed worse results...

Indeed it should perform better changing the title in that way if you are targeting Yello Curry Chicken since the keywords are at the beginning of the title and the weight grows.

How much time has passed since you have made this change? You might be possibly experiencing the Google dance, give it some time. I remembe once before that i was on 4th page for a high competitive keyword and I did not had even the keywords in the title, once moved the keywords in the title i went on the 30+ page of the serps for couple of days and than came back on 2nd page.

Just give it some time, if it persist build 1-2 more links with your keyword as anchor text and see what the results will be after 2-3 or even 7 days.

    Kind regards.

Check the density and prominence of both keywords!if they change there is certainly change in the SERP position or maybe you need to gain more BL to for that! Based on my experience some of my keywords dropped from from first page up to 3rd page! wow! that really hurt!
and it didn't return up to now!

The same happened with one of the client sites I work on. I changed the URL to something more specific and the rankings actually dropped rather then improving. But they were back on Page 1 on Google in a week :)
