Hello, I am a webmaster for a business website and need advise. I am constantly checking my rankings on http://www.google.co.uk for a particular keyword and ranking one of my competitors really amazing. They have literally no content, page rank =2, lots of javascript in the coding ( they do not even bothered to use external javascript sheet). There are no baclinks appear on google. Just trying to figure out what am I doing wrong basically, can someone help me if I pm the details of the keyword and page address because giving the details here is not fair. Thanks a lot.
Hi, Google algorithm is really difficult to understand. They consider more factors. Just read this article- how they're calculating-
Hello Friend, Yea G Algoridhm is very harder but That link is for Pagerank Formula of Google. but we are confusing in Google Rankings Algoridhm. Please suggest if you have any best article for Easy to understand for Google Algoridhm of rankings. so we can consider and get the ideas about that techniques. Thanks John
Pagerank is used in the Google algorihtm, just not how many people assume. It is used to give value to inbound links. http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html http://www.google.com/technology/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Search http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank
Maybe they have been in the business longer than you have been. Its silly to think that you will be listed higher up in the hierarchy even if ya have a good site but your site is new. Give it some time, if you have a better site than them, google will start to value it. Dont use blackhat tactics, eventually you will be cut off in the end by google like all blackhatters eventually do.
My competitors domain age: 3 Years, 7 Months, 7 days. My domain age: 1 Years, 11 Months, 0 days. For a competitor keyword, page one companies have at least 3-4 years domain ages. Does this mean that they are gonna be there always and I am stuck on page 3? So you say quality inbound links is the only way to compete with them even if I am in the business shorter than them. We had a meeting with a SEO company and they told us that for a new domain the we cannot see any ranking results before 12 months. So for a new company is it possible (domain age around 1 year or so) to be on the first page for competitive keywords or they are just lying about it? And one more thing: How important is Alexa Rank? Because my Alexa rank is better than many ofmy competitiors.
Domain rank doesnt mean anything if that domain was parked.... anyone saying anything else, is selling somethin. And Not necessarily is that the only way! Build a better site (in terms of content) and make sure to get people visiting it. Write content that is worth stumble/digg quality. When google sees that your site is being important to others, regardless of links, they will rank you higher... (there are exceptions!). Alexa rank is important in terms of getting advertisers for your site, nothing else. All warez sites have good alexa rank... still the original creator of that particular software shows up in number one when you search for the product... why? Cause of originality and reputation, (which includes pagerank, backlinks, keywords blah blah)...
Google itself admits that it uses more than 100 factors to determine a page's position. I believe that it could be as many as 200 factors these days. And no one but Google knows how much each factor is weighted. Based on your question, it seems that you don't know very much regarding these factors. No one here can truly summarize all that there is to know in just a sentence or two. Those who do, are fools. I suggest that you read as much as possible from credible sources. A good place to start is here: http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors. It is not the most current, but it is still very informative, IMHO. /*tom*/
google is really hard to understand... well backlinks is not the only basis in getting high rank... but also the on site optimization.. it really helps a lot when you optimize your site very well.. and plus rich content.. you will need only few backlinks =) cheers
Experience shows that Google likes old sites, ones that are regularly updated and ones with quality/authority site/contextually similar backlinks. It is not black and white and ranking is all those factors and many many more. Quality content on your site is also important. If it were possible to perfectly reverse engineer the algorithm, it would be broken because people could artificially increase their rankings - there is a good reason why it's not published hope this helps.
Google need to be hard to understand otherwise the algorithm has to be changed every month. what would you all think internet marketer would do if they know the algo? just take a look what kind of software are sold in the market
