I have tried for some time to figure out the cheap sales threads that sell domains for $5, or start an auction at $1. It doesn't seem to be worth the Pay Pal charges to even make the effort. What is the point of sales like this? To build an email list? To get Transactions reps? It is obviously not the money. How is anything under say $50 even worth logging in? My theory is that so many are building MFA's that the buyers around here do not for see making more than $1 a day, so why invest in something that costs more. Also...people asking for type in domains, when, except for us, almost all of the general population use the search bar exclusively, and rarely even know what the address bar is for. Also, there are only so many, they are rare, but the asking budgets for "televisions.com" for instance is 3 figures. Is it just this forum, or do a lot of people generally have no concept of the value of a one of a kind, real word, English ,com. Or is it just fishing to see what they can luck up on? Or what about threads that are looking for 3 letter ,com's, and the budget is $xx? (Or something similar) Are these people serious, or just new? If someone could clue me in I would appreciate it.
There may be many reasons for selling cheap domains.. - Domain is useless for them - They registered a typo domain by mistake - They registered a domain in hope to get some traffic but it isn't receiving anything. - They don't have time to develop it. Also, personal paypal doesn't have any fees always if funds are not from CC.
People fishing and naieve new comers to the industry I would imagine. I got a PM from a DP member just today that my keyword .info domain must be worth $1.24 because that's what I paid for it. I had a nice laugh about that one.
Well, there are no Paypal charges if the person has a Personal account. Transaction fees only apply to Business & Premier ones.
Yeah. Been there. Had a guy try to valuate a domain on "the most possible future traffic it will ever receive." I told him if he could predict the future , in this young industry like that, he should be making 9 figures working for a Registrar. "UH, what about your development and SEO skills dude?"
