    Hi all,
I think Google Analytics is a great tool, but I just dont trust Google. Does anyone know of a tool similar to Google Analytics or Omniture, which I would run on my own server or even on a desktop machine?

Im willing to pay a modest price, so it doesnt have to be free.

    TIA

    John

    Mint: http://www.haveamint.com/
    AwStats: http://awstats.sourceforge.net/

Those are the 2 I prefer.

    I perosnally use Statcounter.

I don't like Google Analytics too much...doesn't give me enough information for my site.

I use PHPmyvisits. Don't have a link for you, but search for it. I find it works well.

Google Analytics uses JS. So anyone that has it disabled goes anonymous!

    Try Awstats. I love it.

Stat Counter is the best option for a free reliable, url monitor, they provide many services such as ip tracking , hit logs and traffic by month date and place came from. You should check them out. Many free tools barely provide that

Awstats if you want to run it yourself (or your host provides it), or Statcounter if you want an on page Javascript solution with the analytics hosted elsewhere.

I find Awstats to almost always give higher numbers than google, I don't htink it differentiates bot traffic from human.

Google Analytics is great but I only use it to track one of my sites. (For SEO reasons, you know : )

Tracewatch is my best-pick traffic tracking tool installed on your own server with very very powerful features that you may have to pay to have with some other traffic analytics tools. They use php code to track, very reliable. What's more, it's absolutely free.

Why not trust Google Analytics? You can also try http://www.statcounter.com/ One of the few websites on the Internet with a PR10

    Hi,
The reason I dont trust is is basically because with it installed on my site Google can see everything that going on.

I know they say they dont, but I figure its only a matter of time before they start using it to refind their search results, and maybe downgrade sites that have a high % of traffic from them, rather than from the other engines.

Anyway, thats just me being paranoid, but I dont for a second believe the "Dont be evil" slogan that Google is supposed to live by :)

I don't like using GA that much either, but as far as free GOOD tracking services go, nothing beats GA.

Awstats is pretty good, I think you can get it for free somewhere, or if you have cpanel it comes incorporated.

    good luck

I use Google analytics and I can tell you it is one of the best stats tool out there.
I don't think Google will penalize you.

I personally prefers StatCounter as well. It is free though the free account only has a backlog of 100 entries. I also use eXTReMe Tracking for comparsion as well.
