I've been building links for awhile now, link exchanging, even some buying of links. I've also aquired some high PR links, like PR6 and PR7, for free. Now, the PR update came, and Google now shows how many links to my site I have, and it says 15. However, the majority of the 15 are from DIGITALPOINT. Because I have my site in my signature, it counts each DP post as a link (well, few of them, but DP links take up the majority of my links). See?: http://www.google.com/search?q=link...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official Why is that? I just realized something... Mozilla must get paid for people conducting searches through that bar. Interesting.
I was made aware of the fact that the links that google will show you in the link: command are a small portion of your actual incoming links, and will generally consist of the lowest PR links. To see your actual total links, people use Yahoo's identical command. Give it a whirl and you'll see.
Thanks for the help. I'm just pissed that I have to wait another 3 months before the next PR update...
That's sort of true. adding links to your site will still increase your ranking in the serps even between updates. PR is just a part of Googles algo in desiding which sites to display. You may not see it in the Green Bar (which is only really a pat on the head), but you can still increase your ranking (which is more of a pat on the wallet ) between PR updates.
I know, your PR updates actually every few days, it only shows every few months. At least I'm getting steady clicks and traffic now... but the clicks are worth so little it's almost worthless.
